Thought I'd share a good article I often refer to when messing with my compression/limiter settings. Geared mostly toward music, it's still applicable to what we do.

Thanks for sharing that, Jeffrey. It's amazing what you forget after 20 years when you don't use it every day. That's certainly Hobo LaughingF-able. Smile

Thanks for posting. I'm still trying to learn what all those knobs are on my symetrix.... this really helps explain some of the terms.

Thanks!

Once everybody gets to know the single compressor... take a stab at the multiband compressor...imagine 5 seperate compressors for 5 different segments of the audio spectrum. Talk about your "total tonal control"

And thanks to Sdelgo for piquing my interest in something that lay long dormant since my audio production education.

I was perfectly happy to compress, noise reduce, and then normalize. Then when I listened with really good headphones, I could hear all kinds of artifacting and warbling as a result. Now I found that limiting is a far far better way to reduce noise and boost the desirable signal. Of course, not recording noise in the first place is prefeable, but still....

Love this message board.
