|
|
I just got an email from a large Talent Agency in a major market who received my demo. They said they were interested in representing me but were only taking on those talent who had studios and ISDN. I have the studios but no ISDN. Anyone else running into this when trying to get agents?

Glenn, that's a standard prerequisite for top agencies.
Hope it works out for you. |

Don't rule out the option of Source Connect... if you're only a bridge away, it's certainly an economical way to go... the bridging fees will quite likely be less than what you would pay per year in line fees and the depreciated value of the ISDN codec itself.
Or... if the agency wants you to have isdn for the purposes of working with them directly for audition purposes etc... you could always offer to buy them the SC plugin ($395) that is now available for multiple platforms... many bigger agencies are already using SC as an alternative.
Run the numbers and figure out what is most economical for you... the thought of losing an opportunity to be rep'd by a big agency can be quite concerning and if the numbers work out for it may just be worth the investment.
All the best,

If an agency says it is only signing talent with ISDN that doesn't mean -
A - Access to ISDN
B - Have Source Connect
C - Have other suggestions
D - Have a phone patch
An agent interested in signing out of town voices with ISDN is interested in, go on, take a wild guess..................... |

UHM... but I know how to use smoke signals, isn't that good enough?
Actually, I'd like to grab another codec, but the Telos stuff is so damn pricey (and I've got enough on the budget for this new space as it is). _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

There's a Zephyr on Ebay right now.
Once in while, some guy shows up with a raft of 'em. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

WARNING WARNING WARNING
I have seen this Zephyr for sale many times before. The seller uses the same pic, has zero auctions/feedback for reference and asks you to contact him directly to pay $1000, instead of using the Buy It Now option. These are BIG indicators an auction is a scam.
Buyer beware!

Ah hah. . . .I wondered what the "private auction" thing was all about.
Steer clear then, eh? _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Glenn, to answer your question; I am only using Source Connect and bridging when I have to.
What did you end up buying for your studio? |

The only thing I have right now is a used Mackie 1402-VLZ board. I put off buying the mic, interface, processor and the rest of the gear until probably mid-summer 2007. Going to wait til we sell the house and buy another one. Then I'll have a better idea about how much space I'll have to work with....and more finances to do so since KID #2 is eating me out of House and Home and future Studio. At 8 months old he's bigger than most 1 year olds. So until I can swing it...I do all my work at the radio station studios, |

I have #2 on the way and due in August. Niki and I just found out on Christmas Eve. We are extremely happy about it. The fun part, right now, is training a 4 month old Lab puppie we picked at the Humane Sociaty. She is eating the furniture, the shoes, the toys...... Thank God for Cesar Millan. |
