Get this...
Yesterday (11/06) a job came up on V123 for some IKEA radio tags. Radio tag samples were supplied. When I first saw the listing last night, 118 talents had applied. Today (11/07) the client stopped the listing... a total of 162 talents had applied... and 2 minutes ago, I heard the IKEA commercial on the radio. Same tag as the samples.

That Ikea post bothered me greatly as it said "local." You and I knew it was San Diego due to the address. I also think I know who the producer was due to the client. I knew that my rate wouldn't fly with him, so I didn't bother to reply.

But I did have a chat with V123 about the use of the word "local," suggesting that perhaps another element could be added to the criteria or description. Their take has been that Local means City - not considering that Spokane or Fairbanks are completely different animals than San Diego. I suggested that perhaps (without identifying the actual city), the client should be required to indicate what size market. Top 25? Top 50? The top 50 markets are all playing to over 1 million eyeballs and ears. Radio and TV spot producers should know this information.

This was in a live chat, but I'm pretty sure that the person I was chatting with eventually understood what I was suggesting and told me that he would pass it on to the right department for review.

I was thinking the producer was either AMS or some friends of mine in PQ... but I ruled out PQ because I could see no reason for them to advertise for talent. And no... I didn't submit. When the talent base gets past 100, I think it's a waste of my time.
