I got contacted by a producer looking to use my Source Connect studio for another talent.

What would you charge for an hour? More than an hour?

Not a friend’s and family discount. I don’t know either talent, producer or agency.

“What would you like to charge the agency for your time and equipment? “

Thank you for your guidance,

Susan

I’d call a couple of recording studios in your area, maybe pretending to be a producer, and ask their rates for a Source Connect session. I’d consider charging a bit less unless you offer coffee and cookies on a doily. Yes, charging less for friends and family is appropriate, but professionals should be used to paying the going rate..

I own a small commercial studio in a "regional" city in Canada (population under 500,000 people). Our rate is $115 per hour inc. engineer and no extra charge for use of Source-Connect. We usually have a 2 hour minimum booking, but we often waive that minimum when the voice talent is booking it directly (out of their own pocket).

They decided to go with another studio. Ironically, that studio was one where I recorded a narration demo a few years back. There was so much room slap that the engineers asked me to re-record elsewhere. Thank you for all replies!

I'm in Maine and we usually charge between 100 and 150, depending on what they need. It's not a fancy studio but where I'm located makes it easier for vacationing folks to use. Actually, that may be the only reason people look at my website! And on that full circle note, I'm going to close the internet.
