|
|
Anybody using an online e-mail newsletter solution? You know the ones that send out a "personalized" mass e-mail to everybody in your contact list?
I've found a few that seem to work pretty well, but I'm always on the lookout for a cost effective method that is reliable and y'all seem to be very savvy in finding cost effective solutions.
Cheers,
Brian

Here's a way to mail out to a list of people using your own e-mail and they never see each other's e-mail addresses. It's called Blind Carbon Copy or :Bcc
When you e-mail to large groups of people, instead of putting all of our e-mail addresses in the "To" area, please put them under "Bcc". This will hide the addresses from the text message.
So, then you want to mass e-mail here's what you do. In the "To" area put your own e-mail address. Then in the "Bcc" area put all of the addresses to whom you want to send the e-mail. They'll only see your e-mail address and you'll help stop the spread of your friends e-mail addresses for sinister use. It's a simple thing to do, but most people don't know about it. |

What I want to know is what program can I use to have the individual's address appear as the recipient and have my "Hey _________!" salutation have that person's name.

Word works. Pagemaker works, Excel works... There are several word processing prorams which will do what you ask and then insert and create and eventually send the email. However, it does take time to set up and properly administer.
Have fun with the concept.

I'm playing around with Constant Contact, and it does exatly what you're talking about DB. I'm or the same opinion that while many prospects don't care if the message is sent directly to them with a personalized salutation, I CARE, and I believe that people do still appreciate being greeted in a personal manner.
I really am trying to get away from having to send out group orpersonalized e-mails from outlook as it is very time consuming, not to mention that some spam filters and isp's are now blocking e-mails that have more than 10 or 20 recipients, regardless of what address field they are in, so that's the reason for looking into a more automated method.
I haven't gotten too far into the program to know exactly how it works, but so far it seems to be okay... It costs about $15 / month, wich isn't too bad, but as with all things I'd love to find one that has the same functionality for less (always the frugal bargain hunter!). _________________ Brian Forrester Voice Overs

Deirdre,
I think I recall from reading the archives here that you know Dan O'Day. Dan's a Mac user from way back and uses some kind of solution like you describe to send out his free newsletters. I bet if you asked him, he'd be happy to clue you in. (And if you don't know him, I'd be happy to provide you with his phone and email info off-board.) _________________ Be well,

Bless your heart Bob-- Dan doesn't have a personal greeting in his newsletters.
It does appear to be addressed to me, which is nice!
But I am looking for something that can alter the subject line and greeting in the body of the letter.
I will be examining this Constant Contact thing as soon as I shut off my GameBoy
—erm, I mean as soon as I finish compressing these imaging sound files for my south shore radio station. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

Deirdre,
You're right. I was thinking of the other bulk email contacts I get from Dan now and then.
Here's an example from his message on May 3rd about this year's Summit:
Quote: | Hi, Bob....
Okay, I've managed to finalize the line-up for this year's
INTERNATIONAL RADIO CREATIVE & PRODUCTION SUMMIT. |
Dan send that message to hundreds of people. So, he has some kind of program for dealing with these issues. That's what I was actually thinking of. Not the free newsletters. I'm sorry for confusing the issue. _________________ Be well,

There is software out there that will personalize your bulk e-mails, but much of it only works with plain text. Not exactly what I consider adequate for newsletters.

I'm not thinking about sending stuff to prospective employers, I'm thinking of addressing groups of potential students.
I think it does matter—didn't it attract your attention to get an email from Fraley that had "Pat to Anthony" as the subject? _________________ DBCooperVO.com |
