I realize we've covered invoicing software many times before, but things keep changing, and what worked well a few years ago no longer does, for any number of reasons.

Having been forced into the newest MacOS ("Catalina"), which is 64-bit, my previous invoicing app is unusable. That's hurdle #1. I need an app that simply performs basic invoicing functions and allows invoices to be saved as PDF, but one that is neither cloud-based nor a subscription. I don't even need it to automatically email invoices. I want a Volkswagen, not a Ferrari.

Does anyone know of potential candidates? Thanks.

I use Quickbooks desktop for Mac. Have been for years because it allows me to keep "correct" books (I'm an s-corp so I need a little more than simple spreadsheets). It also makes tax time a breeze because I can just export my books and send it to my CPA and with a little additional info from my personal books they can get everything taken care of. Quickbooks Desktop for Mac is $399 though...so it isn't cheap and it will eventually become antiquated and require upgrading. You can always buy an older version on Amazon or eBay for less, but you get less time out of those older apps. I'm using 2019 and I'm still on Mojave. They claim that it works in 32 or 64-bit environments though.

I have, however, seen quite a few cloud options. (It is getting harder and harder to find any traditional software anymore. This is the way software is going as a whole). Zipbooks has a free option that might work just fine for you. Wave is another one that I looked into for free, I had already paid for Quickbooks and it's easier to just stick with what I know then try to learn a new software. Still, I may switch over to Wave when Quickbooks doesn't work with my OS anymore. Wave also has payroll and digital payment options that are decently priced.

If free and functional is what you need, I think you are probably best served with a cloud-based app, but I get the reluctance to join that bandwagon. I hate all the subscriptions and I'm holding onto my desktop apps as long as I can!

Thanks, Jason. Lacking other options, even though it is cloud-based, I was considering Quickbooks for Mac. But, when I Googled it yesterday, I learned that the latest versions had file compatibility issues with MacOS Catalina that was/is resulting in data loss.

Since then, I found a simple invoicing app on Apple's App Store that seems to give me what I need, at least for the time being.

I appreciate your quick feedback. Thanks!
