Since the late 1980s the amount of competition has increased in the voiceover world. On the surface that would appear true but beneath the surface, not so much. Sadly, for people looking to cast voices there is simply an awful lot more murky water through which they must wade.
There are a lot of people making claims to be voice over artistes or voice actors or voice talent who do not even fit into the "for 20 quid he'll do!"
A few minutes ago I visited a site belong to Trevor, very pretty it was too!
"Gravelly, warm, and friendly voice"
Not even close. His problem like that of so many is he has no QC chip in his head. One of my dearest friends is a great writer, makes money from extra and modelling work but is also convinced of her skills as a radio presenter, TV presenter and potential VO. Not happening, QC chip completely fried.
Does Philip Banks sit at the right hand of God making pronouncements on the potential careers of aspiring VO people? No. Do I have an informed opinion? Very probably. Do people listen to the latter? Hardly ever as there really is no point.
"What do you think Philip, any chance?"
"Anything is possible but not everything probable. Here's something to try and master, if you can get to this point you become a probable."
So far no one having been told the above has ever come back to me and said that they felt they had reached the "probable" point.
The majority of this reported competition out there, isn't! |

Well, I guess it is time to flip burgers.
Here is an unqualified Hallelujah from the aspiring crowd. Thank you Phillip for your wisdom.
Still working on being probable.
