I've got a pair of Pickering headphones from the 1970s, and the cable, where it comes out of the bottom of the left ear cup, used to be protected from repeated bending (and thereby eventually breaking the wires inside the cable) by a short length of strain relief shrink tubing. (The tubing is also used to protect the length of cable where it exits the top of the left ear cup and where it enters the top of the right ear cup.) The wires inside the cable are broken only in the location first described.

Would anyone happen to have any strain relief shrink tubing laying about gathering dust? Its inner diameter looks to be about 1/8" (or 3.175 mm). I don't want to have to buy a 50-foot spool of the stuff when I'm going to need only several inches, if that.

Or... alternate suggestions would be most welcome, too!

Thanks!

I have heat shrink tubing in a variety of colors (this: https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Qualtek/Q2-F-RK4-1-8-11-6IN-31?qs=f6iYHOF0qgSX%252Bc9u6X1l7g%3D%3D), but I don't think it's the stuff they used for strain relief. You're welcome to a 6" piece if you want it, though...

I bought an assortment pack of heat shrink tubing at Harbor Freight for about four or five bucks.

i've done it with heat shrink using increasingly larger, short lengths of tubing overlaid to create sort of a bubble inside the cavity.

Thanks, guys. I think I'm going to have to do what Lee did and buy an assortment, because it will take some trial and error to find the right combination of inner and outer diameter tubing to fit both around the cable and through the hole in the headphone cup.
