Hi all - I was wondering if other Massachusetts VO folks have received a Form of List notice from their city or town, requiring a listing of all personal property used in their VO business. This would equate to listing computers, cables, mics, vocal booth, etc. - everything we use in our day-to-day comings and goings.

Is this something to be concerned with? How are other Bay State VO folks approaching this? Confused

This one of the ways accountants really earn their fees. If you don't have one get recommendations in your area, pick one, and quiz them on what's relevant and required, and what's not needed for this form.

I did not have to do that in the almost 20 years I lived and vo'd in MA but when we moved I discovered that my town wants that info so they can properly tax me on my cables and chairs.

Yeah - it's downright ridiculous. I would think that it's enough to pay state and federal tax on VO income...but now my town wants to tax me on my equipment also!? Not to mention having to go back in my records and itemize every cable, computer monitor, microphone, etc. in my studio.

Sure, I'll give'em what they're asking for but with depreciation included in the overall value of my rig. Lips Are Sealed

I've lived and worked in MA for most of my life and I've never heard of such a thing. That's not to say it doesn't exist, but I guess I'll find out when I do my taxes this year. It may also make a difference that my sporadic VO income is such a small percentage of my total.

That was my initial reaction. Apparently it's a brand-new law in MA. When I called Weymouth Town Hall, I was told that this was signed into law in 2022 and that notices were sent out last year (I received nothing). I Googled it and saw that other cities and towns have the same thing.

Yeah, totally hear you Moe - Jen and I keep toying with the idea of moving up north because we love the White Mountain region. I have a feeling that if we do move, it'll be much further south cool
