|
|
In the UK we have The Voiceover Network and Gravy for the Brain, both, on the surface appear to fight the good fight for working voices. Reality? Simply money making machines who may engage with issues for Social Media traction only. Equity is the union for all people in "showbiz" so views VO as "also ran". Conclusion? No one really cares.
In the US there's SAG-AFTRA which is exclusively used by all members for Health and retirement and complaining about the tea "oooooo they don't make it properly do they?" Other US camps are SAVOA, simply a business machine and WOVO. WOVO has a website upon which members may post their demos and an annual conference to exclusively promote a man who produces sh*t demos.
OK, I'm overstating things for giggles and shouts of "Banks! You cheeky bugger!"
When the 97 headed Hydra from London Ontario reared its ugly head and ate our children the impotent raised their heads and argued amongst themselves. A VO/Legal Counsel was unusually silent both in person and on behalf of the organisation ...tsk!
The infamous "Ontario Betrayal". Catchy brand eh? Marked the turning point in this business of voice we call overs. Enough of us had to unite, fight and defeat the foul feckless fierce friendless foe! But no, we didn't.
Are we plodding along nicely? Do we, as a community need a voice? I honestly think not. A cull, yes! But a voice, no. |

I was torn between:
"Banks! You cheeky bugger!"
and...
"Perhaps I'm old and tired, but I think that the chances of finding out what's actually going on are so absurdly remote that the only thing to do is to say, "Hang the sense of it," and keep yourself busy. I'd much rather be happy than right any day." - Douglas Adams
I'm going with the latter. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Me too! I opted for this!
Well... to be honest, I wasn't thinking about spending it on training... but if I had been, this would certainly have replaced it. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

One of my favorite phrases these days because it applies to so many aspects of life in 2020, "I have no more f**ks left to give."

"Mr Banks, Lady Hartley-Hare is joining us for afternoon tea with the new Archbishop. Hide your throw cushion at once!"
"Cadogan!" I shouted. Our now 97 year old Butler shuffled into the drawing room.
"Sir?"
I pointed.
"Might I dare to suggest we leave the offending article in place for her Ladyship to see? Every time she invites herself for afternoon tea she eats us out of sandwiches, scones, Strawberry jam and Devonshire Clotted cream. It's no wonder she is so popular with the Clergy as her arse is roughly the same shape and size as Canterbury Cathedral"
I thought for a moment.
"That'll be all Cadogan, Thank you. Do show her Ladyship and the Archbishop in. Sit her ...there!"
The place of my choosing and her Ladyship's line of sight ensured a short visit and a feast for supper!
