There's a new platform out just for voice over artists only!

voiceovermob.com

Registration is free, no hidden costs and they're offering no commission taken until the end of December and after that, only 10% commission.

I was the second member to join and thus far, there are only 9 voice artists on the platform so exposure for voice artists is maximum at this stage!

So far there have been no job posts but it's a new site..less than 1 month old.

You can also use your own name as your username and set your own rates.

There are currently 32 jobs listed at the site, with talent offering their services at an average of $32 per gig.

(And these "gigs" run the gamut from a Fiverr-style offering of "a gritty, male voice over up to 150 words for $5" to "any project for $15" to an "audiobook for $20.")

Color me skeptical.

Also – and of course – there's no indication of who owns/runs the site anywhere to be found. That alone is a non-starter.

Dear Doug,

Thank you for your valued input. It's very true and you've opened my eyes. Where do they come from?
Pretty fishy.
I've been trying to advertise for them as they're not doing a good marketing job. What a sucker! No wonder they're so grateful to me!
I'm getting off there!
Thanks again for laying it bare!

And do we really need yet another voice casting site?

I stopped by to have a look when I first saw the post and wrote a scathing reply in response. Marvelously witty comments about $5 talent and just another opportunist throwing mud at the wall. But then I realized that I really didn't care enough to spend the time honing the grammar and the balance of the message so that it came across as a carefully crafted commentary (rather than just an outpouring of vitriol).

Instead, I shall leave it to Dr. Ian Malcolm (I paraphrase slightly)

Your entrepreneurs were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should.

What we really need are Facebook Groups for Voice Talent, more free "An introduction to Voiceover" online webinars ( like a seminar only made of web) run by Coaches who are so NOT recruiting students, self selecting awards ceremonies, conferences in the east, north, south and west with exactly the same speakers presenting the same plagiarized, unproven material at every one, a VO members only organisation run conference with speakers cherry picked from members who attend conferences in the east north, south and west. 3 competing voice over organisations in UK who invite out of work actors from the USA to teach UK actors how to go and coach in the US. an elite VO conference on an island with a golf course and several cases of Tempranillo with attendance costing $7,000 for the worst of all of the former plus the SH*T demo of your choice, a union that believes no one should work which has a rate structure so impenetrable that Fibonacci invented a sequence to calm people during negotiations, Algorithm Entrepreneurs who believe the best way to cast is 101101101001010101100110101010011001010101001101010, an audition and a $599 subscription plus a well worked 50% back end, someone who sets up as a VO on a Thursday and then remembers just in time for his web site launch that he in fact has over 20 years experience and a Blue Yeti, a gifted VO mentor who non one really understands so is summed up as "intuitive" and a new breed of managers who for 20% are determined to remain blissfully ignorant of all of the above, what working for a client involves and how many bills 20% of nothing will pay.

Brethren. Meeting adjourned. Pub. 5 mins. Be there.

Would that my neighborhood pub and Philip's were the same establishment.

Drinks would be on me.
