I'm behind in social media technology. Do some people make their posts on the various social media platforms by speaking them, and their device converts what it thinks it "hears" into text? It's the only thing I can imagine when reading some of what is posted. _________________ Mike

Yes, I frequently speak my comments into my phone, but the key is to make sure you check it before you hit "enter." I do this because I make more mistakes trying to type with my thumbs.
Some people speak in jumbled sentence fragments (hmmmm, now who comes to mind?), and the computer in our hands doesn't have a fighting chance to use it's predictive text effectively, so it becomes even more of a word soup. At least that is my impression! _________________ Playing for a living...

Thanks, Connie. That explains a LOT of what I've been seeing. One example, in particular, is the phrase "well-known." Increasingly, when it appears in tweets, etc., it is without the "n." And, between that, the "to, too and two," the "their, there and they're," the "could of, might of, must of, should of and would of" and other such issues, I was wondering how we wound up with so many adults who apparently didn't learn much in school. _________________ Mike

In my experience, the speech-to-text algorithm on my iPhone has been remarkably good at the correct use of their/there/they're, its/it's, etc.
Sadly, Mike, I think that your amazement at people's use of things like "could of" and "irregardless" is apropos. _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)

Teacher doesn't mind that particular issue when it's sneaky.
It's becoming this year's Rick Roll.
