I don't do many commercials, so rates have always perplexed me (and that's putting it mildly). For a :30 TV spot that will run within my state only, and only for several weeks, the GVAA rate guide's suggested minimum is $400. The spot is for an established entertainment venue, but doesn't $400 seem pretty stiff for a one-month run?

Can anyone suggest a rate for this? Many thanks! _________________ Mike

I’ve seen discounts for really short runs as in two weeks or less, but for a month in a metro area like yours? I say full rate.

$400 for a :30 tv spot at the state level seems very low. Presumably your state has at least one or two larger markets with some number of mid- and small ones. Without knowing the particulars, I'd say you want to be at $700 for starters. Even better, I'd have your representative handle it since that's what they do. _________________ Jack Daniel

Thanks, guys. As the producer was itching for a reply, I went with the $400 rate. And the response was "the client has a small budget, so we'll have to pass."

The spot was for a prominent entertainment venue in a metro area promoting a holiday show by the Boston Pops.

So, there you go.

Thanks again! _________________ Mike

I vastly prefer this to the "I'm with Stupid" tee you usually wear in my company. _________________ Jack Daniel

...and now for a question that answers itself:

Why did you buy me that T-shirt in the first place? |
