I'm not the gamer type, so I've never played one and don't know anything about them. A client is planning a game-based eLearning project, sort of in the vein of "superhero-fights-villain," and are considering having a narrator for it. So, I need to find (somehow) some examples of what such a video game narration style might be.
A tall order, I know. But, can anyone please point me in at least one direction? Depending on how this goes, I may need to hire someone to be this narrator.
Thanks! _________________ Mike

Hey Mike,
Not to sound flippant, but did you try a Google or YouTube search? I'm sure you'll find plenty of answers to your question. |

Here's an example. Maybe not a perfect example, but anyway....
I play a ghostly undertaker in the Oculus game "Dead and Buried". He guides the players through the game, giving instructions and warnings. Not all game narrators sound like an ersatz Gabby Hayes. This a recording of the game's beginning. You can quit after a couple of minutes unless you really like a big shoot 'em up.

I've also done a ton of educational narration where you just keep in mind the age of your audience. The younger they are the more slowly and carefully I read, but I never go "childish".

Thanks, Bruce. I'm waiting to hear from my client as to whether their client has any thoughts about style.
And, Dan, thank you, too. I usually Google everything and have become very fluent with it. But, wouldn't you know? Knowing nothing about video games, the one time I think to myself, "I highly doubt any search results are going to include a reference to a narrator of a video game," I'm proven wrong. I'd expect game narration to be more in character than typical narration, for what that's worth. _________________ Jack Daniel
