The birth of explainer videos several years ago caused many of us to adjust our rates to accommodate the shorter length. Early on, explainers were typically no longer than 90 seconds; some going to 2:00 or slightly beyond.

But now it seems that there are requests for reads no longer than 60 seconds.

How low do we go? I'd like to accommodate my clients' needs but, at the same time, be fair to myself and not be a low-baller.

This bewilders me greatly. I'd sure appreciate any help. Thanks.

They can call it what they want, but I charge the same for an explainer as I do for any other industrial narration.

I guess it's up to each VO to find a price. I know many in our industry who charge $300 to $450 just to "crack open" a mic no matter how long the read.

If they want several short videos that's where the negotiation magic begins.
