Agreed...

At some point people have to not be afraid to talk about and MAKE money. Yes, we love what we do, AND we also love having an opportunity to make a wage from it.

Society is messed-up.
If we do a job we hate, we expect to get suitably paid, and society accepts that.
If we do a job we love, we expect to get suitably paid, but society seems to think otherwise... and that our pleasure or satisfaction from doing the job should compensate for a lack of suitable remuneration. Unfortunately the main culprits here are the talent themselves who have set the bar so low because they are, "just happy to be a part of this wonderful community and part of show business - squeee!"

It's VO. It's not something that affects society as a whole (just our own well-being)... we are irrelevant and bring nothing of real value to the table. When this stance is taken with teaching & nursing (or anything else that can be considered "a calling") that's when it becomes obscene.

In the meantime, I have a mortgage, utility bills, car payments, the need to eat and some expensive hobbies... and I need to run my business to satisfy these demands.

This was very nearly a spit-take. Half a point.

Now that's some well-said sayage. To the point where I feel impelled to say:

Well said, sir.

At an NYC VoMixer a bright young girl blurted out.

"Voiceover is MY LIFE!"

"God I hope not!" I replied. She rolled back as the impact of the blast hit her.
"I sorry" I smiled then explained.

From that night forward she has only done voice over work to feed herself, her Cat, Alan and to buy shoes.

It's a little convoluted until we upgrade to a newer form of BB software, but in the meantime, if Todd gives his permission, here's a link to his "thumbs up" icon. Just copy it, paste it in your post, highlight it, and click on the IMG button at the top your post entry form. Once you submit it it should show up.
