I've seen many discussions here of home booth builds and how using double layers of drywall glued together with "green glue" yields good sound deadening results. I just thought it was environmentally sensitive glue. But no! What I learned today cruising the Interwebs was that green glue sets up thicker than regular glue so it creates lots of sound deadening air spaces between the two layers of drywall increasing their effectiveness.

Well smack my ass and call me Sally.

From teh Interwebz:

"Sound travels as a wave through the air. It is an airborne vibration. The waves hit a wall or ceiling and the energy becomes structure-borne. Unless the wall or ceiling material is damped, the vibration will travel through the building framing and exit somewhere else as sound again.
In a constrained layer damping system, sometimes referred to as CLD, a damping material is sandwiched between two other (usually stiff rigid) materials. For example, Green Glue sandwiched between two layers of drywall. Damping occurs when the viscoelastic center of the sandwich is sheared.
When bent, shear forces pull and stretch on the damping material. Under these conditions, the unique polymeric construction of Green Glue very efficiently converts this mechanical energy to heat. The vibration energy is not isolated, it is dissipated and gone."

Basically, Green Glue converts sound waves into heat and dissipates the vibrations. Which explains why it gets so bloody hot in my booth.

Not really. The amount of energy involved is tiny and the heat generated by the process is a small fraction of a degree.

Your booth gets hot because you are hot my friend.
