It's odd how a man I never met influenced me so much. Kevin Yon, the voice of the iconic 2011 Super Bowl Chrysler ad, passed away this weekend. The read he gave for this spot affected almost every American male VO for the following five years and then some. The grit, the story, the passion in his voice created such an impression, Kevin was used as an example alongside Morgan Freeman and Sam Elliott in so many audition specs. Not bad for a small town actor from Michigan.
For five years, I was teamed with Kevin to read his disclaimers for Chrysler radio ads. His definitive style of delivery impacted me so greatly, I can feel his presence in my delivery to this day. Sadly, I never got to say thank you.
Here's the local news story on his legacy. |

A 30 year overnight success! Most people want to be a somebody after 30 weeks. Welcome to the Entitled generation.
My heart glowed on hearing "He was just Kevin"
When I die people will simply say "Wasn't he in The Fresh Prince of Bel Air?"
None of us need another AWESOME voice talent in our world but we DO need just Kevin.
Or Liz or Dan or Bruce or Bish or ....... |
