I've replaced cable modems before, but because of Source-Connect and that many of you might also rely more heavily on your modems (say, for gaming, etc.), i'd just like to know:
Apart from the simple instructions provided by Arris (the modem manufacturer), are there any other considerations to take into account when doing the swap? (It's the Arris Surfboard SB6190 [DOCSIS 3.0])
Thanks! _________________ Mike

In theory, depending on how advanced your Internet provider is, their computers should recognize your new modem in just moments, do whatever resets are needed and everything will be copacetic. However, if you want to be doubly sure call them beforehand for their advice. I don't know about the effect on SC however.
By the way I changed to a fancier, faster modem several months ago and it made a world of difference in everyday activity. I also upgraded to the bigger Mac Airport wifi unit which also made a big difference in reception around the house.
