In a survey of people visiting voiceactor voiceover websites looking for THE voice for their project most people reported that they were time wasting and disappointing. I replied "That's nothing, wait until you meet them" - OAVs always make the grade! Always!
As for auditions. Before any person auditions for a job they need to do a self/situational awareness course because the majority have no idea as to the limited limits of their questionable skillset.
A few years ago someone I know very well asked if I would help her through an audition. Vodka commercial. Good pay day. She was required to be as sexy as two sexy things who had just graduated with honours from the Amsterdam International College of Complete Hotness. Our voices, our performances whilst sometimes grotesques should always hold a mirror to reality. Madam VO is a good lookin' gal. Reality check - If being good lookin' was enough there would be no single good lookin' gals and no divorced good lookin' gals BECAUSE being good lookin' would always be enough. Using one word descriptors here is how the takes progressed.
Puh!
Quiet
Brittle
Bored
What!
Anger
Despair
Help!
What did every man watching the commercial need to hear?
"Let me take you to bed and love you for ever!"
Lesson for today - When you don't feel anything or can't feel anything, pretend that you do. |

I have ALWAYS felt that "voiceseeker" was a silly term. Are stage, film and TV producers called "actorseekers?"
Thank you.
