Well, hello everyone.
I'm a new member here, and I just wanted to take a second to say hello, and introduce myself.
A long time ago, more years than I wish to count, I worked part time at an AM radio station, reading commercials and news briefs. Heady stuff for a teenager. After a few years on the local stage, and a kid brother who is one of the better House DJs on the East Coast, I did a couple of radio commercials for the nightclub where he works, for St. Patrick's Day (in an Irish accent). Recently, while standing in line at the Post Office, I began a conversation with a lady who had overheard me talking to the postal worker (a close friend) about those commercials. Turns out the lady works for a local television and cable company, and wanted me to get in touch with her about doing voice over work.
Talk about a kick in the pants!
Anyway, I wanted to find some good groups that could advise me on the best means to find scripts for demos, so that I can put a good one together, and go meet with her.
Thanks for letting me be here, and I hope to become a contributing member! |

Hi Lance, (We'll just call you Lance for short.)
Welcome to the VO-BB. Otherwise known as the best resource ever for voice talent. My first suggestion to you would be to search the achirves first, before posting a question. This board has pretty much talked about every subject under the sun. And to prove it, I have taken the liberty and found this link for you:
http://www.vo-bb.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=862&highlight=scripts+demos
There are probably another 10 just like it.
The best part about this board, is that it's happy hour 24/7. Take a lot of what you read with a grain of salt and with a few of our members a whole salt lick.

Well, thanks a bundle, for both of these kind replies.
Golly gee I never had any idea that there was so much to read!
And thanks for the unwitting vote of confidence, but I have far too much as yet, to learn myself, before I could pass knowledge along to others...

Hey Lance!
We're not finished with you yet, so save your thankyou's until at least the board mistress, or several of our sages (Frank F, Connie, T., or Banksey) have spoken words of welcome from on high. ;-}
I think what the venerable DaveChristi meant was that even though you may think yourself a VO novice, there is doubtless something -- be it in voiceovers or life -- that you will be able to contribute here, and we're all the richer for it!

There is certainly loads to read here.
And Courvo My Dear, most of the time there has been a modicum of correspondence before someone is allowed in the hall of posters, so I am usually acquainted with our New Guys.

Lance,
Welcome. Keep that "with a grain or even a whole lick of salt" thing in mind. As you'll learn, it's sage advice from Dan. (Well actually it's salt advice. Sage is an herb...) _________________ Be well,

I know. I cook too.
But I don't do windows.
Thanks again for the warm welcome. I'll try to be a good contributor.
Even though I am on a low-sodium diet... <giggle> |

Welcome aboard Lance. Have a seat over there... that chair with the seat belts will do. Sometimes the ride may get bumpy... but always interesting.

Hi Lance,
I am a newbie on this board too but I'd like to welcome you anyway.
I have been a member for a few short weeks and have been wading through an ocean of archives slowly but surely. The water is fine and full of interesting fishies. Some will make you laugh, some will make you wonder and some will make you slap your forehead and say "duh, of course, why didn't I think of that!"
I am having a blast swimming around these archives and I know you will too so I come on in, welcome, and good luck! _________________ Joe Rodriguez, Bilingual Voice Actor | The Voiceover Thespian Blog |

Nice to have a fellow Trek nerd aboard.
Although, that whole bar scene you referenced is a horrible attempt to recall the cantina scene from a certain blockbuster sci-fi movie released about seven years earlier...
But, I digress. Put your feet up and make yourself at home. _________________ Great Voice. Great Choice. For Voice Talking and stuff.
