We're loaded with audio production pros in our business. Has anybody taken this Laurel/Yanny audio and honestly manipulated it in such a way that all of us can hear both versions? If it's truly a case of both words running simultaneously and being distinguished by those with different hearing abilities that would be interesting. But there's no proof, yet. Plus I've seen no one claim they hear both at the same time.

My opinion is that everyone hears Laurel and a few wags decide to join in on the hoax and pretend they year Yanny. And part of my proof is that different people who hear "Yanny" pronounce it differently. Gotcha.

By the way, here's the original source for the audio: https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/laurel

I clearly hear "Yanny".
My pal Matt McCarthy posted a spectral analysis of it on FB yesterday:

The folks from Ableton did some work on it, too.

Interesting...

Well...the person who recorded the word was actually recording the pronunciation for the word "Laurel." They expertly and clearly said "Laurel"...and what I ACTUALLY hear is clearly "Laurel."

HOWEVER....

I know of research that shows that different cultures (and I suppose that would include individuals as well) actually see and their brains interpret COLORS differently. Amazingly, two different people can look at the color of a wall and see it totally differently. (not including the whole "color blind" phenomenon - which is an entirely different issue)

After all, what we see, hear and smell are simply interpretations made by the human brain.

Perhaps it is how an individual's brain is wired?

In this way, I'm willing to give the benefit of a doubt to those who profess to hear it differently ....than it was intended.

Thanks DB to your friend Matt for the Rick roll. Haven’t seen one in ages.

It is amazing when thousands of people will participate in a hoax without prior coordination.

Most people that hear "Laurel", qualify for a senior discount. Rolls Eyes
