On the south east coast of England there is a small town called Cromer. If you want the best fresh Crabs on the planet there is a small shop in a side street owned buy a Fisherman; everything he catches can be bought in this Boutique des fruits de mer.

Small = no staff. Fisherman means he's either fishing, cooking crabs and other shellfish or more important yer man is in the pub. So how in the name of holy hell is a body s'posed to get a buncha Crab? Help yourself and put your money in the "honesty box". Salty Sam the Fisherman has made his living this way for years.

My point? We need to run our lives and our businesses with "Honesty Boxes". I fully accept that, apart from being polite, most people can't or won't do this due to fear, greed, envy or simply being disingenuous to award winning levels. Am I judging you? Nope! If the way you run your life and business works for you then praise be to the tiny baby cheeses and all his blue velvet hatted Wizards. But, iffin it don't work then you must change. By not changing you run the risk of being left as a splat of foul smelling ooze found in the dumpster of a thousand crushed false hopes and dreams wherein Rats wade playing the violins of despair for the Hopeless Orchestra of Doom accompanied by the choir of 1,000 gloating Cockroaches from the sinking city of Despair.

My promise to you all.

I will contribute to your "Honesty Box" both publicly and privately and I expect you to do the same. I further promise that you will never have to say of me "he broke my heart".

After a pretty good day yesterday, woke up at 3:30 this morning unable to sleep and unable to stop thinking "what ARE we going to do??" After using the time since to work on potential work-related things., THIS snapped me out of it:

There is something about taking it to the nth degree that just gave me a fit of giggles.

I heart Philip.

On the non VO side of things I've visited a small handful of roadside flower sellers and vegetable stands with honesty boxes here in Oregon and happily bought things even when I couldn't get change. The few vendors I've been able to ask in person about these say it's always worked out well, as far as they could tell.

On the VO side I almost never grill new clients on if and how I'll get paid. You have to sound pretty hinky for me to ask. My success rate? One client stopped paying me when his client stopped paying him and they both went BK.

In affairs of the heart and friendships my Honesty Box has gone wanting a few more times than that, but I leave mine out and contribute to others often and happily.

Thank you brother Philip.

Next time I'm in England I'll be eating crab..there!

Great point though, and very true. I put my 'honesty box' out so to speak for a non vo scenario the other day. Will let you know if it pans out, but I guess the point is to not care. Which I don't. Wink

This could be Philips very own Dream Quest of Unknown "Cadence"
I can see it now.
The Rats in the Walls calling to Cthulhu from Beyond the Wall of Sleep to The Strange High House in the Mist only to find The Thing on the Doorstep where The Terrible Old Man reigns.

Cockroaches indeed
