True, however you might get completed versions of your commercials back in stereo and it would be helpful to hear them that way in case you're editing together a new demo and such.

I'm a pretty big fan of my Equator D5 monitors. They are quite accurate and not hyped on the bass side.

Moose, did you find any monitors yet?

Here's another option I just thought of... JBL Control 2P.

They are relatively small and inexpensive, yet they have a 5.25" woofer.

At work (casino), we have an audio system that cranks out the jams using the "speaker" version of these, on a dance floor.
They sound good there but I have never used them at home or in a VO system.
For $209/pair, at Guitar Center, Feb 2018, I think they would be a good option.

Hi Everyone. Haven't been on the board in a loooong time... But here's hoping everyone's good and working.

To return to this topic that D Voice mentioned in 2018(!), do we really need external monitors if we're not mixing (regularly)?

I had a pair of $500 Tannoy powered speakers die about five years ago, and replaced them with a set of $300 JBL's that are now on their way out. Given how short lived they are...and that I hear my clicks and pops better through the crappy Mac internal speaker...who has abandoned their external monitors altogether?

(And how long are these things supposed to last anyway?)

I've had Yamaha HS50M monitors for about ten years. Love 'em.
And yes, there is low level hiss out of the right one, no matter what cables, interfaces, or computers I've used them with. Have all the power conditioning too. Had them in two different houses! The HS5 is the new version of it.

Had Rokit monitors before and liked them but thought they were a little hyped in the low and high ends. But they're good too.
