There are rules regarding offensive language
Oh, and my 416 is up, pointing down at around 45 degrees, and to the left (because of my politics) by about 30 degrees. It points at the middle of my clavicle from about 18" inches away. Of course, all of this precise geometry gets completely thrown out the window depending on whether I'm barefoot or wearing heels.
So I don't think it really matters that much. Just keep an appropriate distance and address off-axis. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

Shorthand. In the Grand Art of MicFu, Peter refers to The 1st Corbyn Position with added Scargill. |

Bish, I know that you don't know me, but please trust me... I only use Awesome Dude when it really and truly applies, or at times, in a drunk post.
BTW, Chuck is in a band called Rock Sugar. Watch this and YOU decide. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mr4HffbAUTk _________________ nick |

I positioned mine in bubble wrap ...
then put it in a box and shipped it to a new owner.
I can't think of any mic in the past 50 years that's gotten as much hype as the 416. So much so that many think it's the magic bullet.
it's not. |

I suppose many do think it's the magic bullet. When we have some folks who buy microphones because they "look cool," that's no wonder. Well, I'm not defending the 416 across the board, for any and all uses, but it does serve a particular need for many. Such as for dialogue for film and TV. A studio I'd been working from used one specifically for its "cut through" clarity. I liked the way it worked with my voice, so I bought one, have been using it for almost 20 years (its pickup pattern also plays a big part in why I like it for my current setup) and have even received blind compliments from studios I work with via ISDN and Source-Connect: "Say, what mic are you using?"
It just works for me. (As does my TLM 103.) _________________ Mike
