I could do a deep dive into this forum, but I thought I'd start fresh. My Apogee One is on its last legs, and I need a recommendation for a good travel mic. Thanks in advance! _________________ "If the shit fits, wear it."

I'm not sure why you'd want to avoid a Search here on the VO-BB. It's easy. A shallow dive came up with hearty recommendations for the Apogee MiC in less than a minute:

Stack them hotel sheets, curtains and pillows or find a good full closet and you should be good to go.
I'll bring it with either my iPad or iPhone or Macbook Pro for longer trips. That pluse the Twisted Wave a means I'm golden.
James Arnold Taylor and Joe Cipriano both use the Apogee MiC for traveling. That, in and of itself, is a good enough endorsement I think. |
They're still inexpensive at $200 a pop, too.

I'm happy with the AT875R... does the job and is quite a small package in a short-shotgun format. Turns up most places at $169 nowadays. I find it more forgiving in hostile environments than a regular LDC. _________________ Bish a.k.a. Bish

What do you use as an interface, if I may be so bold? _________________ "If the shit fits, wear it."

Been loving the combo of my Apogee One (Mac, iphone, ipad) and the 416. Before that I used the RODE NTG3 which was also good. _________________ www.mattcowlrick.com |

Any small one channel interface will do for travel:
scarlett solo, steinberg ur12, audient id4 (my favorite)
If those are too large, the Shure mvi (which I believe Bish uses), the Shure x2u (which I believe Bish also used), or the mic port pro (which I believe Bish might have used.) would work. _________________ "There's Magic all around us; you just have to see it. I gotta say I find the Apogee 96k mic incredibly sexy. It comes with an adaptor that goes straight into your iphone. if you are a member of voices.com, you can upload auditions through their a, how cool is that?
That being said, I never booked one off there with it... buttt... that's not necessarily the mic's fault |

+1 for the AT875R
Purchased it based on Soundgun's recommendation.
It's tough. Not expensive. Sounds great. _________________ "I reserve the right to be completely wrong." |

Another vote for the AT875. Haven't used it much, but when I have, I love it. _________________ http://neilkhessvo.com |

I used a SHURE X2U /Gefell M930 for a few years and switched to an Apollo Twin last summer. Either works fine and the Shure is definitely more compact and sounds good, but since I use an Apollo in my studio I figured it made sense to match as best as I could when on the road. Plus I needed to spend some deductible $$ So it's an Apollo Twin with the MKH-50 and use the Neve Mic Pre and Fairchild Comp plug ins. Of course it works great.
FWIW: I also pack the X2U as a back up since it's very compact. |

Yep. Always good to spend that excess deductible cash. I'm curious as to what computer you are using with the Apollo on the road? I keep being unsatisfied with the sound I get from my laptop. My next solution is some long cables. _________________ "I reserve the right to be completely wrong." |
