|
|
Voice 123 sent me a notice this morning of their new policy forcing paying members to submit only custom demos if the client requests custom demos (the option to submit one of your generic demos is take off your V123 submittal screen). To follow is my response to their unilateral change.
I've noticed your new change and in concept its fine but in practice its doubtful.
A client who wants a demo script should be required to pay a minimum amount for the job to be able to request a custom demo for two reasons that are immediately apparent to me:
1. Many of the jobs that Voice 123 accepts to list/promote are in the $50-$200. These are usually prices that are well under market value. Those less expensive jobs should NOT be allowed to request custom demos.
2. Some (not all) of these companies are just looking to get talents for free...using a good demo on-air and taking a risk; forced custom demos just helps that cause (many voice talents do not watermark their demos for safety). Further, it forces the voice talent to either submit and risk being taken advantage of OR not be considered because they didn't want to risk being taken advantage of by a company on the other side of the country or the other side of the world (even if the company requesting the audition is legit)
Based on past history on V123 (changes are made and the paying members opinions are not seriously considered or solicited) and the many opinions offered by fellow members and recently resigned V123 members on various voice over boards, this change will likely be unpopular and lower even further the talent pool who submit anything on V123.
I hope you would consider seriously the above suggestions.

Let me guess, this is their reply: <crickets chirping> It is what it is, Peter. And it ain't about making the service any better for us. |

This morning was an interesting posting to which 133 talents have thus far responded on Voice 123 - It simply said "You've got the job - Coca Cola"
Is this the beginning of even more problems , with spam postings? |

I just think everyone should change their Voice Characteristics to "You Get What You Pay For" and let that be it. It's great practice material for $200, but the scripts are often poorly written. How many times can you read "We take pride...." in one day.

from V123 a minute ago:
Today a Lead stating you got the job was published by error, it went through our filtering system and it was not detected until it had reached most of you.
The problem has been resolved and measures are being taken to improve our verification and filtering processes, so it does not reoccur. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this incident may have caused..

I mentioned your email in my email to 'em, too. Told 'em they should pay attention to your suggestions. Then went on to thank them and IV for lowing the bar. I finished by saying I'd have better paying clients if I were turning tricks. Yes indeedy. I'm sure we both got 'em shakin' in their booties. |

Dear Peter;
We really appreciate your feedback. Please allow us to answer
some of your comments:
1. A client who wants a demo script should be required to pay a minimum
amount for the job to be able to request a custom demo
V123* Yes, we will only allow clients that place leads for more than
$100 to have custom demos.
2. Some (not all) of these companies are just looking to get talents for
free...using a good demo on-air and taking a risk; forced custom demos
just helps that cause (many voice talents do not watermark their demos
for safety).
V123* The usage of the audio would not be a problem, because we reduce
the quality of the audio to 32 Kbps, which is pretty low for
Broadcasting use.
We also make sure to change or cut the script so you (Talents) don't
record the whole thing.
3. Based on past history on V123 (changes are made and the paying
members opinions are not seriously considered or solicited) and the many
opinions offered by fellow members and recently resigned V123 members on
various voice over boards, this change will likely be unpopular and
lower even further the talent pool who submit anything on V123.
V123* We have always consider the talents opinions; at least 80% of the
upgrades Voice123 has done throughout its history have been done thanks
to the feedback of the talents; which is the majority of the feedback
we receive. We are pretty sure you have noticed many of the changes
that we have done.
4. I hope you would consider seriously the above suggestions.
V123* Again, we always consider all feedback seriously and yours is not
exception.
We will make sure that our manual filtering process of leads takes into
account what you have just suggested.
Our most sincere Thank you for taking the time to let us know your concerns.
Do not hesitate to contact us again if you have further comments or
questions.
