Rycote designed Lyre mounts are the way to go, for sure... no more wear points from elastics.

I assume the Rycote will work upside down. I'm thinking of suspending my mic from the ceiling.

Same here.

Not from the ceiling, but on movable arms.

It makes for an "upside down" hanging mic.

The Heil PL2T booms are outstanding if you're looking for a "traditional" type mic mount. Totally silent when adjusting and quality construction with a functional cable channel. Have two and love 'em.

That Rode is by far the best shotgun mount I've seen. Night & day over the elastic band mounts. VERY secure fit. That 416 ain't goin' nowhere. The Hook pop screen is great too. Been using that for quite awhile now. With those two purchases, that should complete the "accessorizing" of that particular mic !!

Thanks! I can't rationalize those big GAS purchases to the girlfriend anymore, but she'll appreciate practical workflow improvements, especially in the sub-$100 category.

I tried the Audio Technica mount, and I didn't think it held the mic in the clamp tight enough. Before that, I tried the Campro Deluxe Microphone Shockmount that was cheap in price and quality. I just received Rycote INV-7 and I am impressed, and it is vert simple. I wish it had a little more weight to hold my boom arm in place.

Did we ever clear up whether the Rycote designed Lyre mounts would work properly when mounted upside down?

Anyone using one successfully in this position?

(note: photo shown is regular "right side up" position)

I think a picture is worth more than words.

While I would not suggest using the 416 for a hammer or baseball bat, they ave very rugged mics. After all, they were designed for location use and can take a beating in that environment.

A quick question regarding the Rycote INV-7.
One of the pictures above shows the mount with a 416 installed with the foam sock, but it seems to me that the sock has been slid forward to allow room for the mount. When fitted properly, the sock leaves 2.5 inches of the 416 barrel exposed, so...
1) What's the spacing between the lyre mounts?
2) Does the sock need to be moved forward an inch or so to allow use of the mount?
3) If it does have to be moved, does it actually matter?

I suspect that sliding the sock forward a little it does not matter one jot. This is the stuff that takes up far too much of my time Smile

Edit:
OK... deeper research reveals that the lyre mounts are on 2.75 inch centers... so it's a marginal thing and the sock would only have to be move minimally.
