Uh, hi. Everyone scared away by the ??
Today's scripts include:
at the top--the opening line:
Quality...Service...Value...
for the phone:
again, that # is....again, thank you for calling...
for the calendar (it's a glue masher):
will hold...will hold...will hold
Ugh. Loathe those words together. _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

Real arresting.
NOBODY else has those things.
Or a friendly and knowledgeable staff
or ample parking. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

On Monday, I recorded a spot that contained:
"We care"
"...unparalleled customer service" (Very hard to say when cramming 45 seconds worth of text into :27 seconds) and
"That number again ...."
A trifecta of trite.
I kept wanting to add "Operators are standing by."
Arrr.

I hope it's not unbecoming of me to admit this, but I had a feeling I might at least be a finalist.

Trite may be bad, but it could be worse. I recall an AE at the radio station who focused on the "sparkling clean restrooms" in the script he wrote for a small town convenience store...
Which wasn't nearly as bad as the AE who kept telling me that the client (for whom we were producing a TV commercial) wanted to show the remodeled ladies RESTROOM! Right.
I refused.
I really had to go in there & see what all the fuss was about. Paint, a picture, & a flower arrangement. <sigh> So sad. Even quality, value, & service beat that. _________________ Mary |

I recall doing a spot once for a gas station/quickie mart place where a large part of the script was devoted to the clean bathrooms serviced every two hours or something like that. Do you suppose there was an article in some convience mart industry mag that said to push the bathrooms? _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

Some restrooms are worth the attention.
Like these, just up the road a bit from me. |

On a semi-related note, I did a cable TV spot today for the Flippin Law Group! They help people file bankruptcy. I had to take a couple of giggle breaks. Especially after the line "Just call the F l i p p i n Law Group."
I kept imagining...
Husband: Honey, we're buried in bills. You just buy too many shoes.
Wife: I guess we should file for bankruptcy. Just call the f l i p p i n' law group and get it over with.

Yep-- that's what I was giggling about! Not just in Utah-- here in L.A. too!
(I spaced out the letters, BTW, so that my client wouldn't find this post when self-Googling. Just in case.)

In a TV promo session this morning one script contained the now immortal words ................."In a world ....."
Take 1 - Abandoned. I laughed
Take 2 - Thank goodness, that was painless. |
