A new member of the team at the Voice Over Agent called me. Max, what a delightful chap! It took him a few moments to compose himself. What was it that threw him the proverbial curve ball?

The man who answered the phone (me) sounded exactly the same as the voice he has heard on all the stuff (technical term) I do.

"It doesn't happen that much" he said "when I heard you, well actually, I was a bit intimidated!"

It would appear that the thing most people sell is NOT them. Devoid of talent and one dimensional I simply couldn't manage that type of thing.

Except he probably didn't know how funny you are. Not that you need any extra work, but you could be a great comedian.

Your Youtube video on how to do a trailer voice is one of the funniest things I've seen.

I used to work with a guy at a radio station that naturally had the "Voice of God."

Only thing is...he ALWAYS talked that way.

When he talked to me..he would move MY diaphragm..

It irritated the hell out of me. Laugh

For about 10 days my diet has been abandoned, back on plan tomorrow. Last night ordered Chinese food by telephone.

Walked into Chinese Restaurant.

"Hello" I smiled

"Hi. £23.50 please" she twinkled.

Never met this girl before and the place was busy with diners and callers.

"How did you know which order was mine?"

Herself grinned, nodded her head and rolled her eyes.

Diet doesn't appear to have had any impact, my middle is still the size of a Beluga Whale, BUT I was only able to eat less than 1/3 of the far from excessive order. Jazz and Bess bravely stepped in to help me in my hour of need.

When I answer my home phone, I say "Good Morning" or "Good Afternoon" or whatever kinda time it is, and that also confuses the hell out of some folks.

They think its a "business".

Little do they know. . . .

I'm always amused by people who switch modes... one moment they're in their perfectly normal, scratchy, stuttering, umming & arrring, regular speaking voice and then, bam!, they're in VO mode. I always get this mental picture of the mousy bespectacled girl on the TV ads... glasses taken off and hair unclipped, and they're suddenly a top model oozing sex-appeal.

I was talking to a prospective client the other day (an actual phone call) and they said that I sounded "just right" for the project as long as I sounded like I did on the phone!

I'm the WYSIWYG version of VO... WYHIWYG I suppose Wink

thanks for that. I actually just attempted multiple takes for how that word would be pronounced if I had it on copy. Valuable time spent....
