SO I get a call today to come to a large studio on Monday morning and record a corporate narration for a company. Great. Then my throat gets sore, my sinus' clog up and my head feels like a bowling ball.....I am just lucky I was able to get some prednisone and a Z pack from the doc to try and nip it in the bud by Monday morning. Let's hope I can....but don't ya hate that!?!? |

The first professional paid gig that I ever booked... the exact same thing happened! I freaked out at first... did everything I knew to get myself better and by Monday morning I was probably at about 85%... much better than the -20% that I experienced on Saturday morning...
In the end... I nailed the spot, and I continue to work for the studio on a relatively regular basis, not to mention, a segment of the spot remains on my commercial demo to this day!
Long Story short... you can do it, as long as you think positive and are confident in your abilities! Oh yeah, some ColdFX and other good drugs can't hurt as well!
Take care of yourself!
Cheers,

I agree. Sublingual zinc lozenges. I also have had great luck with Zicam nasal swabs. They're for children, but they're so easy to use so I keep one in my VO kit.

Be careful with the nasal gel sprays-- I've heard tell that it can affect your sense of smell if you overuse it. Like, permanently.
There's a mouth spray that works by Zicam: Cold Remedy Oral Mist.
First inkling of symptoms-- spray. Whomps the cold before it gets a hold.
wow-- I should be an ad writer.

Yeah-- I've heard about that. I use them so very infrequently, though, that I don't worry about it.

By the way.....the prednisone and z pack worked and i was feeling better by Sat. Went this morning and earned the easiest money for 10 min. of work that I have ever done in my entire life. Plus made a very valuable contact for more industrial narration work. Whoo Hoo! |

Glenn,
Great news. Good for you and I hope you're able to get a ton more work.
My doctor gave me one of those Z-packs earlier this year when I had a bronchial infection and it cleared me up faster than I've ever experienced. _________________ Be well,

Two words:
Neti Pot.
OOoohhh... yyyeahhhhh....
Although, with my cavernous schnozz, I had to be careful to not let the thing slip all the way up my nose. Haven't tried it with zinc yet. Did wonders when I was still in Austin with all the polens and spores and dusts and crap blowing around in the air. _________________ Greg Littlefield
