This is SO COOL.
I like being able to discern the differences in the aural signature of these pieces. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

Kevin, I don't use Protools, what do you mean by "bounce"? Do you copy the file to a different track, or mix it down to another track?

Greg,
Obviously, I'm not Kevin, but I do use ProTools. "Bounce" is ProTools speak for "Mix." _________________ Be well,

Greg,
I get confused by that too (I'm also an Audition guy).
I guess I'm old too. When people say "bounce" I think back to 4 tracks and tape. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

Same notion.
I still call flat round things that play music "records". _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

Yeah, it is. For some reason my mind never made the leap though. I "bounce" analog files but I "mix down" digital ones.
That's it, no more red wine or bulletin boards for me tonight. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

Deirdre,
Even if they're silvery and shiny on one side? (Me too.) _________________ Be well,

Yup, I continued to call CDs "albums" for years, since the word means "collection" or "compilation"...just as it did when it referred to vinyl. _________________ Great Voice. Great Choice. For Voice Talking and stuff.

OK threadjackers, back to topic. Thanks for the comparison Kevin. I found it fascinating to listen to each one and see the progression and the changes. _________________ Pam Tierney

Kevin,
That McDSP MC2000 looks real interesting. Are you using the modeling features? And would you care to reveal or give us a general idea of how you set it up cuz it sounds real good. (both voice and the production). |

Greg,
Obviously, I'm not Kevin, but I do use ProTools. "Bounce" is ProTools speak for "Mix." |
"Bounce" also is used for file conversion in PT. As an example, I "bounce" to MP3, AIFF or other external file formats supported by PT.
The process Kevin's described is "mastering." It's the magic stuff that certain engineers or producers present as their gift for which some are paid quite well.
It usually goes: track1 + track2 + track? ... -> mixed track. Then, the mixed track is "mastered" (Eq., limiting, compressed, phase shifted, reverbed ... whatever).
The kick is that effects can be put anywhere in the chain. The trick is knowing what to do and how. Some voice talents must be adept at doing those feats because of the business they do, i.e., producing.
