10 years was a good run though. As ephemeral as a line of dialog is so too is a gig.

They made him an offer they KNEW he could refuse. How much above Union Scale was "take it or leave it " offer? I wonder. People will be angry about this travesty until Wednesday lunch time.

I don't get social media (this is a well-know fact).

He had a ten-year run as the voice of a major brand. Times change. People move on. Business models shift. I get that he's disappointed... I get that it's not a good thing if he was dealing with a pay cut... but this stuff is for the negotiating table not the court of social media.

... but, if ego demands you've got to say something to you hordes of fans and admirers... how about, "Thanks for the ride Geico... it's been a great ten years!"

I just don't get it.

ya see, when we had to write letters to communicate we had time to think things through. perhaps soften our language in a 2nd draft - or throw the paper away completely. now it's type, send, THEN think.

if i were the person in charge of hiring voice talkers for all state or nabisco - or --- anybody --- i might think - "this guy is a little cry-pants baby & i don't want to hire him". then again, maybe i would forget about it by next wednesday.

Twit! If he got a huge pay cut that means he had huge pay, certainly in the last several years. When you get a gig like that, you start saving for the day that gig ends don't you? Plus he's done almost 1000 episodes, so far, of one of the UK's most popular TV shows. What a whiney little lizard 'e is, cor lummy!

The above was from the Book of Dick Van Dyke Chapter 7 v 11-16. Had it been me I would've played the race card too!

Nor does Mr. Woods. I don't recall hearing any whinging from Gilbert Gottfried when he was plucked from being the Aflac duck.

From the former gecko's Twitter profile:

"Hey Twitter, regarding a dispute I had with a lizard this week. I apologise. I was upset. Moving on, nothing more to see x 😘"

"I'm upset right now!"

Tell your spouse or partner.
Visit a friend and blow off steam
Phone (Skype) a friend

None of the above? Get a life! Do NOT get a Facetube page or a Twittle profile.

What's interesting is, this guy was not their first voice. He replaced the original actor.

Graciousness and gratitude always trumps attitude. The proper note to social media, if any, would have been, "Thank you Geico for 10 fantastic years!" There are many who work an ad campaign, from the writers, producers, editors, buyers, etc. No one wants to work with anyone they fear will bad mouth on social media when things don't go their way. This is career suicide. And sadly, it happens everyday.

We've all been replaced. And, we've been the replacers. That's show biz! But the airing of one's feelings publicly is unprofessional and petty. Part of this is the result of social media instant gratification. Part of it is a society who expects participation ribbons for just showing up. They have been conditioned to express hurt feelings publicly because they have been coddled. Well, it don't work that way in business. Lose with dignity and move on!

....and I would kill to have a 10 year run with an iconic ad mascot!!!

Too bad. The toothpaste is out of the tube, now.

I can sort of understand blurting out something, in the heat of the moment, that you will later regret, in a real-time, face-to-face conversation. But I can't understand how anyone can take the time to type out his thoughts, and then not take five more seconds to ask himself if this is something he really wants the world to see, and that he can never undo, before hitting the "Send" button.

There are many times when I will type a comment, either here or on Facebook, have a look at it, be satisfied that I was able to verbalize it, and then backspace the whole thing.

At the risks of sounding tragically hip: THIS.

This, this, this, a thousand times this.

What a grand ride we get sometimes! and as Bruce said, Start saving as soon as the good fortune arrives, because the Big Time can get mighty small might fast.

Yes. Gratitude for the good times is always good. He had a good ride - and what Todd said is correct. It's too easy for the mouth to hit the send button before the brain kicks in.

I still think he made a better lizard tho'
