Hi Vobbers,
I'm trying to learn how to turn my 3 minute daily agriculture newscasts (www.westernagnetwork) into podcasts that can then be posted in a way that people with rss can search for and subscribe to. I've tried feedforall and followed the demo as close as I could, but I'm obviously not doing it right - and I'm left with questions as to other pieces of the whole process that I can't find answers to. Most of the tutuorials I've found online say, "it's simple." huh? I usually catch onto things pretty quick; but this has me boggled. Is there anyone here that's already ventured round this learning curve that would like to help talk me through this?
Thanks.
Stephen

Stephen,
There is a program that makes it easy to make an RSS file. It's named EasyPodcast. I use it for my podcast and Mozilla Thunderbird E-mail client to pick it up.
On your site you have a list of links to MP3 files which are your podcasts. This is perfect. Most folks will just download what they want. In addition, when you make an RSS.XML file with EasyPodcast, put the file in the directory with your podcast files. On your site that appears to be the root directory. When I subscribe to your podcast I put the URL (address or http://www.westernagnetwork.com/rss.xml) of the RSS file and Thunderbird will check to see if you've updated your content every 100 minutes (by default).
Here's how our Podcast page is set up. I would recommend showing the actual link to the RSS file to make it easy for folks.
There are also weeb pages where you can offer your content that make it easy. Ours is also with PodSafe Music Network which was William's idea. It's worked out well for us.
By web stats we have about 100 people listening each month. Not bad for two people not really saying anything. LOL Good luck with your podcast! |

Hey, for podcasters in the Mac world, I found this software:
http://reinventedsoftware.com/feeder/index.html
And for Mac or PC users I found this:
http://www.feedforall.com/
And for those who want to do it all on someone else's website and wants that someone else to host it all:
http://www.feedcraft.com/
Any commentary from those in the know is welcome. I'm having a hard time even learning how to spell RSS and XML, let alone create feeder code. Heck, I just learned how to spell HMTL a couple of years ago!

The new issue of EQ magazine has a great tutorial and reviews of a couple of inexpensive podcasting set-ups. |
