I got great support with a tutorial on how to download and install the plug-in for VoiceZam. The problem is that I don't see a place on my Wordpress Dashboard for plug-ins. I have the free Wordpress. Do I need to pay the $99 for the premium Wordpress site to allow plug-ins?

Thanks, Doug. The issue is that I didn't have "plug-ins" as an option. The person that originally developed my site got back to me to let me know that I have to have the "Premium Wordpress" to have the plug-ins option. I have the free Basic Wordpress.

He's my second tax write-off for 2015 already!!

Doug!
Jebus.
Let us try a bit more kindness for 2015.

If your WP site/blog/thingie is being hosted at Wordpress.com, you won't have a Plugins tab on your Dashboard.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/

To use all kine plugins like VoiceZam, you'll need to pony up for their premium offering or host your WP installation yourself. You can get web space very inexpensively in many places— it may be less expensive than WP's $99 — and you'll need a domain and all that to move forward with a self-hosted WP site.

If you just want to experiment with WP at worpress.com, that link I gave you will show you a list of the common plug-ins.

To add audio to your WP site:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/

All the best!
You'll be pretty limited until you get your own hosting and domain name.
That's an expense worth taking on.

Thanks, Deirdre! I'll look into this. I thought I had my own hosting and domain name. Lord knows I paid real money to GoDaddy for a couple of domain names. I paid someone to start this whole thing up for me and I never thought to ask some of those questions. I didn't know what questions to ask!

Within GoDaddy you need to make a database first and then install Wordpress there.

DON'T SPEND ANY MONEY on WORDPRESS if you have hosting.

I wish I could be more hands-on but I'm us to my ass in alligators with family stuff.

Apologies! I wasn't going for "unkind," honest.

Just thought that site was a goofy way to answer the question. I just followed the link myself and saw the "Was That So Hard?" animation, which definitely changes the tone of things.

Sorry!

Doug,
We're fine. That's similar to the link VoiceZam offers and it looks really easy - when you can see something to click on for plug-ins.

I won't get mad at you for unfollowing my Tweets either. Hahaha!

If you paid for the domain and hosting, then you could use a free WordPress theme, but you'll have to install it via the cpanel of your domain. WordPress also has a built in audio player, so you don't technically need the voicezam plugin. Unless you really want the stats, it isn't really any easier than just adding the stock WP code. For less than $100 you can get a VERY versatile WP theme with visual editor and super easy customization.

There are tons of free themes that would work just fine though. If you have the domain and hosting, you have all you NEED. Just depends on what you WANT.

Also, do a quick search and learn about the difference between wordpress.COM and wordpress.ORG

One is the free blog, the other is the web software platform for site development.

Wordpress is FREE for everyone but you could pay a LOT for site development using wordpress as the platform. But wordpress itself is free.

Thank you, Jason!

Doug, please know I was having fun with you. I just PM'd Deirdre that I feel like I'm part of the family already. All's good in the neighborhood. I had no issues with your response whatsoever.

Cool...just wake me up when we stop to eat. I'll be sleeping on the shelf by the back windshield.

And no worries, David, all's good. (And FWIW, I'm still following you on the Twitter.)

Smile

And Lee (obviously) is sometimes TOO kind.

And – based on the time of his post above – is sometimes UNsleeping.
