Recently I've been doing a series of scripts on Health & Safety at Work topics and it's every bit as fun and exciting as you would imagine.

Today's topic was Asbestos Awareness, and it made me aware of something I'd never realised before. This was the fact that, although at first glance there's nothing particularly remarkable about the word asbestos, when I have to say it repeatedly it does weird things to my mouth and brain. Very weird things.

I had to stop recording a fifth of the way through the script and will have to find a way to prepare myself better somehow when I come to record the rest of it. The good news is I've got the first fifty or so references to asbestos in the bag now, so I only have about another two hundred to get through.

Incidentally, this is not one of the known dangers of asbestos mentioned in my script. I could report it to my client and potentially add another paying module to the course, but I'm not sure it's worth the risk.

There's a term for that phenomenon! "Semantic satiation" It happens when you repeat a word so often that it is temporarily rendered meaningless and all weird-like in your head. It'll reset itself if you take a break and not think of pink elephants for a while.

Saying "asbestos" too many times always gives me logorrhea.

Work safety turns into human anatomy. The layers are endless.
