A guy who commented on my booth on another board shared his build with me and I thought someone here might find it useful. It's made of doors, like others we've heard about recently.

Very detailed plans and construction on his site:

Very nice info. I stained the outside of my booth doors with an ebony stain. The wood grain shows through and looks awesome. Carpet is nice too...but for those that want a nice finished wood look....the stain works nicely.

Great resource, Brian. This board is fast becoming the place for collections of build-your-own-booth info.

Ben, How about some pics? I'd love to see that stain. I'm going to stain the wood trim on mine but haven't decided on a color yet.

Dave, no kidding. I think it's good though. There's precious little info on DIY treatments for voice over applications out there. Of the info I've seen that musicians post on their boards I'd say 60 to 80% of it is wrong or misleading.

I realize that seeing is believing...but reading is another issue for me...what the heck is a "gobo"? Is this, or should it be, part of the VO-BB Guild glossary...or even more likely...am I hopelessly out of touch as ususal?

According to Wikipedia:

Quote:
Gobo is a slang term used by sound recording engineers to refer to a movable acoustic isolation panel.

An acoustics gobo is parallel in use to a photography gobo, which is used to block direct light sources, and also shares its name with the stage lighting gobo. The origin of the term “gobo” is obscure, but is most likely short for “go-between.”

Yeah, what he said at the link (my bold):

Materials that I used to build these go-betweens

or I would not have known either (even though I am Cliff Claven)

I've only ever heard of the lighting gobos which are thin metal sheets with a pattern or image cut out for light from a stage lamp to shine through.

Here you go Brian. The color is a little off since I was shooting low light in the basement with no flash/slow shutter to get more of an accurate look. I just stained them a few days ago and have been too busy/lazy to haul it all back upstairs

The color is actually called Ebony. It's the Minwax stain the yellow can for indoor purposes.....It's like $6.00 for 32 ounces, which was plenty for the door and the trim pieces I needed to stain.[/img]

Handsome!

I did a black shiny enamel on the outer part of the bookshelves in Mission Control, with a fire-engine red enamel on the inner parts. I mixed the red down with thinner so the grain shows through.

Ben, That's sweet. I usually prefer to let the grain show through too. Especially with black. It's a swank look.

My wife would love that DB....red and black are her colors. When she competed her horses years ago, those were her competition colors.

Yes, I was surprised at how well it turned out. I have some trim pieces to go around the edges to make for a more finished look. I am woodworker wanna be though.
