you can use burlap, muslin, polyester to cover the rigid fiberglass, if you can blow thru it it will be fine.

not sure about the foam core roof, that will be pretty reflective

and Mary, that's classic!

Something to think about is the doors themselves... If you choose hollow doors, get some insulation spray foam and fill the doors to a solid point. Then cover each door - inside is where it counts - with something - be it carpet, or that foamy material stuff - sort of like fleece, but not, or 2" acoustc foam, whatever... (Now I am talking about the doors you will enter and exit with, not the "wall building components" here. Although if the "wall building components" are 'hollow doors' - fill them with insulation foam too.) (Home Depot - is my friend with these type projects).

Will the doors reach the ceiling? If not, there are a whole 'nother set of rules to apply here.

Fianlly, (being brief, not boxers) - Keep It Simple Silly - do not overbuild. It can be audibly dangerous to this.

Toodles,

Frank F

My only advice is that you make the booth indoors.

Sorry. Embarrassed

I will be laughing about that all day! Laugh

I was planning on Auralexing it... But Dad thinks it will sag, so it looks like it's going to be another door, with foam or 703.

Two of the walls will be made from doors. I was wondering if they should be squirted full of something. I'll do that for sure.

I intend to use indoor-outdoor carpet on the inside. Can I just paint the outside? I always see these things with the carpet on the outside, too-- is that just for asthetics?

They won't. I was thinking of Auralexing a door and using it as a pot lid of sorts. It would slide over the desk area, or could slide back over the mic stands behind the desk area... No?

Frank--

Have you ever filled one of those hollow doors with foam? I'm wondering if there's a trick to it. Don't they have multiple interior chambers shoved full of corrugated cardboard? I sawed one in half a few months ago, and that's what it looked like to me... Two of the walls will be hollow-core doors, two walls are...walls.

Also, I couldn't find Owens Corning 703 from a local vendor. An insulation contractor nearby sells a competing brand, though. He says it's identical to the Pwens Corning 703-- same density, same thickness. Is there any reason why I should only use the Owens Corning brand? I don't want to wait for shipping...

Thank you for your help!

There are several vendors of rigid fiberglass and mineral wool that would be fine. I'd reccomend taking the brand and product name and entering them here: http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/search.php

If the experts (mostly John Sayers and Knightfly but others are knowledgable too) at that site say it's good to use then you're AOK.

The trick is to: keep drilling a little hole and fill it full, then drill another hole and fill it full, and.... When you have covered the entire surface of one side of the door with little holes... your half way there....

Actually drill a little hole at both the top and bottom, then start filling... if you are lucky, you will fill the entire door, if your not, you drill more holes... how you will know if it is full or not is when the foam starts coming the hole your not putting foam into.

Toodles,

Frank F

It's pretty, too.

Steve shared that here a while back amid a discussion of portability:

I'm trying to find the little cable that connects my camera to my computer so I can post a pictorial update... The room's not finished yet, but the sound of the room has improved significantly already!

I'm going to have to fiddle with my mic etc. settings, which has me quite intimidated.... Wanna come over?

It's funny you mention that. I've spent the last two days fiddling with my settings on my pre and compressor since moving into my booth. Everything has changed, but for the better.

Sure, be right over.
