What-- you're learning pointillism?
Or Art history?
Or did M. Seurrat put the moves on you? _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

The original of the above picture is on a fridge door in Caen, held by a Winnie the Pooh fridge magnet. It bears the signature (bottom right)

Well, I took my kids to France this summer. They had never been to Europe and they were very excited about going, and the first thing they wanted to do in Paris was visit the Louvre. Although they enjoyed the museum a lot, they were very disappointed about not finding certain paintings there. Upon questioning, I learned that they had gotten the idea from Loony Tunes Back in Action that this Seurat painting was at the Louvre (I've since watched the part of the movie in question, and it's pretty darn funny).
The next day we went to the Musée d’Orsay to see the Impressionist paintings there. Also a great visit, and there was a small painting that must have been a study in preparation for the execution of Sunday Afternoon, but still no big painting. I finally googled the darn thing, and found out that it’s in Chicago. I kind of felt like the kids blamed me for all this.
I recently dragged them to the local art museum about a mile from home, and there we found another small “study” by Seurat from the Grande Jatte. So, I think ignorant with my head in a hole might be a more accurate descriptor for this here rube than pretentious… |

Oh, God! That Seurrat painting brings back so many early Saturday morning art history classes, in the dark, the slide projector humming in my ear, hung over, with my art prof. rambling on and on about "Pointlessism". By the end of the three hour class I was able to bend quarters between my thumb and index finger.
While my BFA wound up being nothing more than a degree which which I've done nothing, I married a working artist and we have a print of that damn painting in our den. French artists.. ach pooey I tell ya! Give me a Luminist from the Hudson Valley. Them Yanks knew how to push paint. _________________ www.voiceoverdrew.com

Absolutely. And yet, all of that stimulated a genuine interest in art |
