So I got this new suite of eq and compression with my new Focusrite Forte and thought I'd get some ears on these settings.

EQ1

EQ2

Any preference? They are different and one could say that each has it's own use. But as far as daily commercial usage, which is more mainstream?

For your voice, #1 seems a little bright. JMHO.

I pulled the files up and looked at them where I could see the frequency response of the files in comparison. I agree that #1 sounds a bit brighter, the the amount of higher frequencies is from230 to 380 herts, and from 1400-2000 hertz, and then out beyond 12,000 hertz a bit of boost.

But from 130 hertz on down, there is ENORMOUS boost of the low frequencies.

I went back and listened again. Could I tell from listening that the low frequencies were jacked-up? Not me.

Curiosity: What mic are you using? As told in the thread on Noise Floor, I have issues with noise underneath my audio. In your case, you must live in a state where background noise has been outlawed!!! Laugh

I'm using a Sennheiser MKH415

What kind of monitors are you using that #1 sounds brighter?

1 sounds too crispy on the upper end and there's a false sounding low end to it, like you're in a small booth. 2 sounds much better with no ultra highs or lows. Listening on M-Audio BX5's.

So, do you guys set your amps eq for playback at flat to get a basic reference playback tone? I do.
