(Only asking because the Search function doesn't seem to be working. Deebs? Bueller? Anyone?)
For those of you with in-house ISDN setups, do you use the BRI (basic rate interface) service, or is the PRI setup required? _________________ Great Voice. Great Choice. For Voice Talking and stuff.

What happens with the search function?
I use ISDN, but I can't help you with the pricing. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

Results are shown, but clicking any of the thread links gives a "server busy" or similar error. Happens in both Firefox and IE.
Well, ISDN is a significant expense any way you slice it. Just curious as to what most VOs are using service-wise. _________________ Great Voice. Great Choice. For Voice Talking and stuff.

DB,
I did find a temporary workaround --- just remove the "&highlight=[search term]" from the resulting URL. Still odd that they don't come right up. _________________ Great Voice. Great Choice. For Voice Talking and stuff.

Yep, I'm keeping iSpeek on the radar as well. Just trying to stay somewhat versed in the ISDN arena for the day when I can actually implement it... _________________ Great Voice. Great Choice. For Voice Talking and stuff.

Sorry Dave,
I almost forgot to answer your question. Here goes:
Which ISDN Interface to use (BRI or PRI)?
It depends upon your codec
Most often for VO codecs you would use the BRI Basic Rate Interface which offers two B Channels and one D (data) channel. Each B Channel is 64k, so two B Channels would be 128k. This is what the Telos Zephyr, Musicam and other codecs use to communicate. All codecs squish the audio (compress) down to fit the 'audio coding' codec chosen in your setup - this might be MPEG1,2,3, or 4 (aac) or a proprietary codec in use by some manufacturers.
PRI is 23 B Channels and one D channel for a total bit rate of 1.544 Mbps this is most commonly used for transporting video and audio. For VO use this would be overkill - not to mention expensive.
The D Channel is used to transport data such as stop and start codes and sync information, its 64k on the PRI and 16k on the BRI.
Hope that helps.

Frank,
Thanks. That's more or less what I thought. The phone company's page mentions those details, but of course doesn't specify what's best for one-man-VO businesses. Much appreciated, and again, I'll keep iSpeek in mind as well. _________________ Great Voice. Great Choice. For Voice Talking and stuff.
