VO-BB - 19 YEARS OLD!

I have a 4x4x8 vocal booth and I've been researching how to best distribute acoustic treatment.....I've reached the end of what I can find out for myself, so any help would be appreciated!

It seems that foam is not going to yield the same results as broadband traps made from something like OC 703. I have enough money (just) for 48 square feet of 2" 703. I filled out the cool little application at ATS website, and it looks like that might be enough.

Question though: how do people suggest I distribute it? I was planning on making 4 traps of 2x4 each, one for each wall (I have no window). Would that work? I like a very dry acoustic to record......should I cover the remaining walls with something else? $$ is a real issue right now!!

Small booths need maximum deadening. Others far better qualified than me but you'll need some bass trapping too, I think.

I also have a 4x4x8 booth. If I'm remembering correctly the total inside wall space is about 100 sq ft.

My suggestion would be if 48 sq ft. is your max amount at this time, concentrate your coverage on the upper half of the booth.

I'm going to change my mind a little.....I got a great deal on 96 square feet of 1" OC 703 instead. This gives me more coverage area but allows me to double it up for 2" or even 4" if I want to sacrifice area for thickness. If then I do need a little more bass trapping, I can fab some 4" panels for certain places.

In the corners the bass can really build up, so double it up there if you can.

You might cut a few into 8 triangles, and stack them in the corners. Makes stellar traps.

Save some money for fabric to wrap them in. OC703 has formaldehyde in the bonding agents, so you don't want ANY of the fibers to escape, especially in such a confined space. 1" thick is more versatile, indeed. Cut into equilateral triangles to trap the top for corners, like these:

Absolute best bass trapping for your buck. Then put 1" on all the wall surfaces 2' from the floor to ceiling, and cover the ceiling, too.
