I was trying to find the video for a VO spoof that was done in the UK that the Voice Actor is in the studio doing a pirate voice commercial and the director keeps making him change it constantly while the vo keeps getting more and more angry at the producer. It is a spoof reel and is hilarious.
If anyone knows which one I am talking about could you please post the link.
It has floated around this forum before. I beleive that's where I first saw it.

Thanks Dan

Gittin' ready for Talk Like a Pirate Day are ye?

Originally it took me a second view to realize the VO and the producer are both Johnathan Kydd.

I was at a filmmaking symposium last week and at the award ceremony the finalists were reminded that if they won, their acceptance speeches would be limited to 30 seconds each. I said to the person next to me, "Go quicker but sound slower" and to my great amusement, he said, "Aharr!"... turns out he'd just seen that little bit a week before.

There are so many little in-jokes and plays on words in that bit. I find something new in it each time I see it.

I started to shake about half way through; way too reminiscent of several sessions I have. Years ago, there would be 4 or 5 people with the engineer, and at least 3 would be reading the paper. Nowadays there's 6 people in with the engineer and 5 are working on totally unrelated things on their MacBooks.

I was doing a 30 second read for a tv spot a couple of weeks ago that started out at 39 seconds. They started cutting 2 or 3 words at a time, having to make several phone calls each time to double check the cuts. It was beyond painful.

Another fun session was one where I was doing a voice for an animated character and for 20 minutes the director/ client kept yelling at me to make him bigger, BIGGER. Then the comment was he was getting too "unbelievable" and over the top. I responded by saying "How can he be bigger, bigger and not be over the top?" Then the direction was "think Jackie Gleason, but not gruff, more huffy and puffy". I kid you not, this was real direction. Then he says "he should be jowly."

We then take a break and he says, let's show him the sketch for the character". The character looks a little like Jabba the Hut - a grossly overweight man.

I then ask, "when you were saying BIGGER, BIGGER, did you mean fatter?" Apparently that was the missing key.

There is a very good reason why so many voice talent drink heavily.

I assume some of you have received an e-mail from Marc Cashman, requesting some of the most ridiculous directions you've received during sessions. In case you did not get the e-mail, here is part of what it contains:

"Got anything like these?
I'm collecting them for a book, "We're Auditioning For a Muse,"
that'll be chock full o' stupid directions from actual scripts
and true, funny stories about V-O sessions where stupidity ran rampant!
If you have one to submit, I'd love to see it."
