I have a question. I am doing a client's voicemail system, which requires the 8-bit 8khz wav file. But I can't, for the life of me, get it to even sound DECENT. I know the sound quality is intrinsically bad because of the file sample and bit rates, however, I've heard some telephony audio that sounds a ton better than what I'm getting.
I record in AA CS6 at 32-bit float, 44.1khz. Then when I bounce ( to 8-bit, 8khz, mu-law PCM wav) I have a lot of distortion and a really intense desser effect (sounds like I'm talking with a lithhhhhp).
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! |

I have had a terrible time with the later version of Audition compression to mu-law. I use Audition 1.5 to do the conversions and they sound "great." But using my laptop, which has 3 on it, I too get the lispy sound. I have been meaning to ask about this myself.
I do the usual convert to 8 K - 16 bit and then save as mu-law which gets it down to 8 bit, but Jason is right, it sounds REALLY bad.
If I go on the road and need to do a job for a regular client who needs mu-law, I'll be stuck, unless I can figure out how to get Cool Edit or AA1.5 on the laptop...unless someone can tell us what we need to change in the settings to get that lispy issue to go away! _________________ Playing for a living...
