Yes. I fiddled around with the pricing estimator, myself. The amounts change based on the number of words in the script and the number of talents invited to the race. Unless I missed it, McCarley's post doesn't mention that. So, the 'suggested' amounts are as close to 'fixed' amounts as they can possibly be. Right? Is that logical?

I'm not going to sit and watch the countdown, waiting for the bunny in the pot to boil. If they were to add a Pong game feature while we wait, or something, I'd be more inclined to play beat the clock when I'm not too busy and am just sitting at my computer eating bon-bons and trying not to blink.

So this Hare-brained scheme is pushing things towards a "dollar a holler" business, AND you have to sit by your computer all day to even get a chance at these paltry amounts. Torrenegra...friend or enemy to our business?

Hmmmm. I'll have to think about that for a moment.

Done.

i don't think alex is a bad guy - from our brief chat a few years ago he seemed like a NICE guy, as a matter of fact.

that said (and having nothing to do with anything) alex has put together (another) business model to make alex money. i don't imagine advancing the common good plays much of a role at all. it matters not to voicebunny/voice123 if the actual talkers make money - only that the client is satisfied and the talker pays his/her dues.

some will pay & wait.

i will not.

What Todd just said.

According to what I've read, Mr. Torrenegra and company – as well as those behind voices.com – are marketing (and IT) people. The way I see it, they recognized the masses wanting to get on-board the VO train and simply came up with a way to get as many on-board who were willing to buy tickets. The same thing could probably be done for those wanting to get into other fields. I don't believe they necessarily knew anything about the VO biz beforehand; they saw a need and are filling it.

I didn't have a good experience with either P2P after giving each a year. I won't go that route again, no matter what warm & fuzzy name they give it.

Besides, bunnies eat carrots. They shouldn't play with their food by dangling them. Smile

i should add that i think it's alex's (or anybody's) right to throw whatever business plan he likes against the virtual wall to see if it sticks.

I am registered on the bunny. I have gotten exactly ZERO opportunities, and I suspect it will remain that way. My posted rates far exceed what the bunny is suggesting to clients. que sera sera....

Interestingly today I received an e-mail 'apology' from Voicebunny. What the apology was for, I am clueless, since I'm not a member, which makes it all the more bizarre.

Since they are still testing, maybe you got mixed up with a client and that was a form letter they're going to be sending along with every completed project.

@ Limerick Lane - 'VoiceCarp - Our VO's Suck'. It has a certain ring to it, dontcha think?

I've worked in enforcement for the government for many years. We have people in management say 'but he's a nice guy". Yes, nice guys sometimes do bad things. Maybe this isn't generally a bad thing, but specifically it is bad for the industry. I hope things change.

I'm going to start a VO casting web site called CriminallyMindedDuck.com

If you are a member of any pay to play sites you will not be allowed to join. No ISDN ? Sorry. CSM (cheap shit mic)? Sorry. Accredited Voice? Nope. Think what we do is a craft? Step away from the application form.
Think the "same" instead of differently? Go away or I shall summon a Constable.

Think on!

Larissa: Great blog by Kyle. Thanks for sharing that. I'm so, so, SO glad I have no part whatsoever in that venture.

I think one of the things I'm MOST thankful for is that V-B doesn't allow any interaction between clients and talents, thus prohibiting the build-up of any kind of recurring relationship. Since about 90% of my work is repeat business, this assures me that V-B won't be much of a threat to me, anyway.
