Can I just say, I hate the name "Voice Bunny" so much that I wouldn't touch this thing with a ten-foot pole.
UGH.
Nothing against bunnies. Bunnies are cute. I bought my children a lovely little book called "I am a Bunny". It's about a bunny, with lovely illustrations of said bunny and his nice little animal friends.
But Voice Bunny? Bah. Die in a Fire, Voice Bunny.
There, I said it. I feel so much better now!!!

I may have been one of the first (I dunno, dozen, hundred) to sign up for voice123 when it first surfaced. At that time, I just thought that if nothing else it would be another website where I could post my demos and a link to my own website. A whole year of responding very quickly to many, many audition notices (but none with WTF budgets) went by without so much as a "thank you for submitting."
At some point, interactive voices (now voices.com) hit the scene, and for the same reasons as before I tried that flavor. For a year. Same outcome. Dropped that like a lead balloon, too.
Now, I was no beginner. I'd been around the block a few times, having done some projects for some very respectable companies. Then, I put my bookworm hat on (OK, it was a propeller beanie) and found that in both cases the owners and fribulators* of both of these entities were not VO people. At that time, their only experience with the industry was perhaps having heard a few voice-overs on commercials and what-not. They were/are marketing and IT people. And, just like some of the Pied Pipers (self-proclaimed 'coaches' with little to no real experience dangling an easy way to a six-figure carrot) out there still today, they dangled a glob of honey and all the bees swarmed to it. These people saw an opportunity for no one but themselves. It's business, after all. It's like WalMart holding a half-off sale on blenders and having only three in stock, but charging customers to come into the store to do battle with each other. They make their money no matter what happens.
By now, each of these entities has some experience in the VO industry simply because of the attention and participation. FEH. Standing too close to someone in the subway can have a similar effect.
AFAIC, the 'bunny' is yet another Pied Piper. A car that's been in an accident but has had it's frame straightened, however still goes down the road a little cock-eyed. I fart in it's general direction and wave my private parts at it's Aunties.

mike....
can't say i'm "glad" you had that experience with both entities, but i feel a little less a "failure" after reading your post. _________________ rowell gormon

Heard this statistic many years ago: For one third of all small businesses that fail, choosing the wrong name for their business was a major factor.
My favorite example was a roast beef sandwich shop that opened in Phoenix. Proud of his heritage, the owner named it after his ancestral homeland.... Dalmatian Roast Beef.
It closed after only three weeks.

Bruce - true story - I grew up in New Orleans where Al Copeland started his Popeye's Fried Chicken 'empire'. As is the case with most restaurateurs, he failed many times before finally hitting the right combination of recipe, name, etc.
One of his early failed attempts, though, was a store named "Chicken on the Run".

"Chicken on the Run" is such a crappy name. He should have called it "Poultry in Motion." _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.
