I had to reset all the standard clocks in the house (amazing how many we have)...something I haven't done for decades since most of my life has been spent in that rebellious, non-Savings-Time state of Arizona. Does anybody realize how ridiculous DST is? All the millions of hours of missed sleep in Spring and all the minor confusion twice a year for minuscule energy savings (I looked it up)...Here's an article that details the many health cons and few pros of shifting back and forth:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/06/daylight-savings-time-health_n_1078661.html
And we do it for the farmers?? Cows don't care. They don't have clocks. They get up when the sun is up. So do the farmers.
Rant over.
Thank you.

especially if your dh resets the clocks. but, not all of them.
got up at 5 today.
actually, i like it. that extra hour has me feeling that time slows down for a little bit, for a couple of days _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

I always thought it was dumb too, but someone mentioned to me that another reason they do it is so school kids won't be waiting at the bus stop in the dark (which made even more sense as last week, I was sitting in the car with the kiddo...at the bus stop...in the dark). Not sure if that has any truth to it or not, but it was nice to be sitting at the bus stop this morning in daylight
I brought this up to the hubby when he was complaining about DST and his thoughts were "Why can't they just start the school day later during this part of the year?"...to which I said "Brilliant!!" _________________ Back into the murky lurk from whence I came

But let's keep the DST hours all year not the standard time. Dark at 4:30 pm -- no way. I like the light in the evening. I am not a morning person. _________________ Gregory Best

This is so typically American. Instead of just adapting our routine and doing something that needs to be done an hour earlier or later, we insist on doing it at the same time and changing what hour it is. _________________ Lee Gordon, O.A.V.

Meh. I hate DST. And I'm with Greg on keeping the clocks an hour ahead of standard time. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

According to an article on NationalGeographic.com, Ben Franklin is to blame for DST. And, as the article states:
Quote: | It wasn't until World War I that daylight savings were realized on a grand scale. Germany was the first state to adopt the time changes, to reduce artificial lighting and thereby save coal for the war effort. Friends and foes soon followed suit. |
The piece goes on to provide some interesting statistics as to the benefits of DST, although there are also some real downsides.
As for who participates in DST, Wikipedia says:
Quote: | Most areas of North America and Europe observe daylight saving time (DST), while most areas of Africa and Asia do not. South America is mixed, with most countries in the warmer north of the continent near the equator not observing DST, while Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay and parts of southern Brazil do. Oceania is also mixed, with New Zealand and parts of southern Australia observing DST, while most islands do not. |
I, too, agree with Greg. _________________ Mike

once upon a time i worked for a group of radio stations that straddled the ohio river. the business offices were in indiana and the broadcast facilities were in kentucky. that part of indiana did not participate in DST, and kentucky DID - so 1/2 the year i had no idea what time it was, _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

Yes, Indiana only recently joined most of the rest of the country in DST. Before that, whenever dealing with out-of-town clients, I always had to stop and think, "OK -- am I on Chicago time or NY time right now...?" _________________ Always look on the bright side of life.
