I wonder what they mean by "We feel the industry is getting pretty low level"?
I got a letter from these guys tonight, letting me know about their New Tiered Memebership. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

Just a hunch... but I think what they are trying to say is that the industry is bottom heavy. To state that the industry is getting low level would mean that quality is an issue. A bottom heavy industry would relate to numbers only. It would be presumptuous to consider a bottom heavy industry as low level, without first considering the quality of all the members. _________________ "Bailey"

"V-e-r-r-r-y Interesting, but not funny"; to quote Rowan and Martins 'Laugh-In'.
To me it sounds like they are trying to answer the problems realated to other VO "talent-agent" sites such as V123 and others.
As in dealing with the bottom feeders in the industry (meaning the folks whom will accept "$20.00 a holler"). The VoiceMaze site is a decent presentation, but again, it allows for multitudes of the 'bottom feeders' to become part of their 'elitist group'. There is no rhyme or reason as to whom they will accept and as to what rates will be offered or accepted by Talent.
What are the 'standards'? What quality of product is to be given? These items and others are not a concern of the website owners - just how much are you going to give to the site owners seems to be the scheme among web talent sites...
The big questions is: "What do 'we' as talent do to prevent this mis-carriage of justice in our enviornment?"

I got the same e-mail. I think it looks like they're saying that they're going to start charging to be on their board and all the rest is just padding for that. Quote: | New features which include tiered membership. Don’t worry, it won’t kill you. | I took "Blog" to mean that they would have some sort of message board like this one.
If I were looking for someone to do VO's I'd just come to this board and start clicking on everyone's web pages and listening to samples. |

Oh, yes-- me, too. Good luck to them!
I can't imagine Frank or Banksey spending much time on their board, and Mary McK seems happy here-- so what would be the point?
Heh.

Bill, that is high praise indeed.
I tell my students to do that-- come here to find people whose sound they like.
I wonder how many industry honchos know about our little enclave. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

I've often wondered the same, DB.
You honestly don't know? No word-of-mouth, rumor-about-town, gut-feeling about it?
My guess would be, it won't be an enclave much longer. Such successes as your well-run site tend to get noticed, talked-about, and referred to a point where it just alla sudden exponentially grows.
It's probably not there YET....but when it gets there, I'll be sad the way I was to leave my small home town in Illinois where everybody knew each other, and eventually moved to Las Vegas, where the money and the connections were great, but all innocence was gone.
My .1% of $20.

I took it to mean a Rave and a Rant page... very one-sided and aimed at coercing "talent" (I quoted that for a reason) into paying more for less.... I dont think you will see me frequenting their site - maybe once - but then, maybe not...

Great place to start, thanks to our illustrious Board Czar - DB!. Don't tell everyone, if you do - Banksey will become a STAR... (just kidding Banksey - you're a STAR already in my book)
MCM - Thanks but my head is a little bigger - er - smaller - er... oh, well - - than that... LOL

Deirdre took over when the much loved "Voiceover Cyberstation" went away. To her credit, this board is for us and not to promote her career. She has never used it as anything other than that, though she could! <g> If someone wants to find a voice, they don't have to depend on a site where multiple talents are listed. |

As long as we're patting Deebs on the back (and of course she deserves it!) this site has been the best learning tool for me hands down. I love reading my books and visiting other sites etc. but none of that comes close to the wealth and variety of knowledge shared on the VOBB. So THANKS DB!!! And thanks to everyone of you that share your experiences. _________________ Hart Voice Overs Blog

well i think this site sucks - it doesn't allow me to get any work done, it cuts into my family time, and it's the only URL my fingers seem to type unless I force them to do otherwise... geez. For God's sake - i haven't even had my coffee yet!

My thoughts on the VO-BB site... in a few words...
Walking into a warm house on a winter day, standing by the radiator to thaw out.
The smell of fresh baked bread in the kitchen.
The sound of rain on the rooftop as you fall asleep at night.
A worn out pair of bedroom slippers that you can never quite replace.
Cold watermelon on a hot summers day.
The smell of a fresh cut lawn.
Drinking sweet tea on the front porch.
Good night Mary Ellen... good night Jim Bob... good night John Boy. _________________ "Bailey"
