I have recently been haring that open or semi-open headphones are preferable for editing (and producing) voiceovers.

If so, what headphones are recommended, and why?:
a) accurate
b) durable enough to travel with
c) comfortable
d) reasonably priced

BTW I am already using a pair of Beyer-Dynamic DT-770 headphones for recording, which are closed.

I've been using my AKG 240's for over 25 years. They've held up really well and are comfortable enough to wear all day. And I have..

They're a little heavy on the bass response, but I've gotten used to them as far as that goes.

I use same as Monk, although lately I've been trying to do work without headphones. Jury's out about how effective that is. I also have a pair of open-air Sennheisers that I like very much.

I have a pair of Sony MDR-V600 and they work well for me. I wear them for hours at a time and have no problems with my ears. I don't use monitors though, due to roommates being disturbed by them if I'm editing at night.

I have a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-M40fs Studio headphones and love them. Pretty neutral uncolored sound. Love them!

I have a pair of Shure SRH-440s, but I often swap to my studio monitors. Just depends on what I'm doing.

I use headphones (Sennheiser HD535) only when I'm in an ISDN or Source Connect session (and a little one-ear headset for phone patches).

I use a pair of Sony MDR-7506... but doesn't everyone Wink

They collapse for easy packing (not that I've taken them anywhere), I can wear them for hours and they seem pretty accurate to me... I think they're considered as a sort of bullet-proof industry standard for location sound guys. They run around $100.

I do my editing with my studio monitors. My recording is done sans-headphones as well.

I have a pair of Shure 840's and they are just fantastic. Very comfortable and seem to have an incredibly detailed sound.

Picked 'em up in Thailand for a sweet deal!

LUV them!

Don't record with them, but I do edit with them.

Selecting headphones can be a little like selecting studio monitors.

I too have AKG K240 Studio and the variations of this headphone for years-- including the legendary K240 DF.

Though they are discontinued you can find them for cheap on line. Last year I bought a few of them just to have for back up.

AKG 240 and Sennheiser 555. One of my 240s was bought for me by a radio station in 1984. They still work and don't sound half bad! (I don't use them but I've still got them.)
