Aww, you guys cut it out! Wink

I admit to being a wuss when it comes to snow & cold weather...but I often visit the mountains in the summer.

When you have a view like that outside your door, I guess travel is unnecessary at vacation time. Don't tell me...you always want to visit the ocean shore!

hahahahaha......no, I don't want to visit the ocean shore.....I just moved to this location in November for the sole reason of getting away from heat and high humidity and large bodies of water. I moved here (Divide, Colorado Altitude 9400 ft on the northern slope of Pikes Peak) from Baltimore Maryland. It was strictly a quality of life move.....I've always wanted to live in the mountains......Now I have my dream house in my dream location and can never think about living anywhere else. LOVE IT! Pitch black at night....there are no street lights.....hardly any neighbors.....can't see the ones we do have because we're pretty spread out and we live IN the forest so the trees block any trace that there is anyone else around.....everyone has at least an acre....most have multiple acres, so there's a good distance between neighbors. Peaceful and unbelievably quiet and private......It's like being on vacation year round. The stars at night are phenomenal.....so bright....you can even clearly see the Milky Way.....looks like a large lit up cloud in the pitch black sky amidst all the other blazing stars......sheesh.....couldn't be any more beautiful.

Gee, guys. I'm truly envious! My back yard is hardly worth sharing. Especially with two medium-sized dogs running around out there. Dammit At least it's wide enough for my son to practice pitching.

Sunoco?!!! I remember Sunoco...it was DX before that....then it disappeared from Illinois altogether.

As for TGG....I forgot what starlite looks like....all I can see is the big ole spotlight shooting straight up into the night air from the Luxor, and lots of neon reflected back down at me from an ocassional cloud (every 8 to 9 weeks) in an eery reddish-gold glow.

But, hey, where else can you possibly see the Air Force Thunderbirds perform, go snow skiing, water-skiing, see a NASCAR race, Cirque du Soleil and Celine Dion all in the same weekend? (trying to console myself somehow).

Hey Tom - is the forest growing back yet? I have done a lot of dirtbiking around the Woodland Park/Divide area over the years, but haven't been in the area for over a year now. I have been quite upset with the damage from the fire a few years back. We used to park at the Trail Creek Campground near the West Creek Fire Station - but after the fire, the road was washed away by the erosion.

By the way, if you hear a noisy dirtbike - that ain't me or my riding buddy. We keep 'em quiet.

Love the view Frank. The view from my deck is of Eucalyptus trees and mountains. We live in a neighborhood called Eucalyptus Hills. It is bout 20 miles from San Diego. It wasn't so grand in 2003 when California’s worst wildfires got within 1000 feet of our property; actually it was down right scary! -- 12 people died within 10 miles of us. -- 40+ homes where lost within 2 miles of us. Too close for comfort. We may have fires occasionally, but no blizzards, hurricanes or tornados.

But the trees are green and beautiful. We are about to have our trees trimmed and some taken out closer to the house.

I still love living in Southern California. Where we live is 30 minutes to the beach, 40 minutes to the mountains and an hour to the desert.

I don't like snow and cold and this is perfect.

Hi Don....I've only lived here since the end of November and I'm not familiar with the Trail Creek Campground near the West Creek Fire Station....Is that in Woodland Park? As far as I know, Woodland Park hasn't had any damage due to fires....it's all still lush and beautiful around here......The big Haman fire a few years back was further out in Douglas County....Now that was some damage....devastating.....I don't believe there's any significant improvement in the state of things from that fire......I almost bought a house that was on the outer fringe of the burn zone, but didn't. Alot of charred dead trees. Very sad. But here in Divide and Woodland Park, all is well and beautiful. Since you're familiar with the area.....if you're coming up the mountain on 24 from Colorado Springs toward Woodland Park, and go through Woodland Park, eventually you come to the intersection which is Divide....Just a grocery store and a gas station and video rental place....go through that intersection and about a mile down is Twin Rocks Road.....if you turn off of 24 on to twin rocks road you are heading toward where I live.
You have to turn off of Twin Rocks after about a mile and a half and turn onto a winding steep dirt road that takes you up even further about a mile....I live up there. But if you've been avoiding the area because of the Haman fire.....Don't! Come back for a visit....It's still alive and well and unaffected by any fires. That's pretty cool that you are familiar with the area....most people have no clue....even alot of Colorado residents.

Hi Tom -

The Campground and fire station I referred to are about eight or ten miles north of you. Not driving distance - but straightline distance. And yessir, the Haman fire did get that area and made a mess of much of it.

That area is one of my favorite spots on this planet.

Oh yeah - - I checked my topo maps and I think I have a good idea where you are. It appears that you are near the Florissant Fossil Beds, maybe just a bit east of them, near 421 rd - izzat about right? I have been in the general area from time to time - a little further north, but I haven't been right there. And you are quite right - it is a little slice of paradise!

I've ridden the area north of you for many years, summer and winter. You ain't never had any real fun until you've been - well, not lost exactly, but certainly "temporarily bewildered", and it's about 12 degrees and it's been dark for an hour and you can't ride the trails back to the truck in the dark 'cuz your light shines everywhere but where ya need it so ya gotta ride the icy back roads in the dark and cold.......

I was going to post a new pic or two of the view from the front deck, but it's snowing. Yes, it's snowing in late May.

So, maybe tomorrow...

Maybe not.

Uh, Frank?.....pics of snow would be INSPIRATIONAL to me here in the desert SouthWest, where temps of 100+ are norm from now through September... so, shoot away!
